I've asked over on AVS and got a personal message which confirms that the mod does not work with latest beta FW...

Hi YES the new firmware does kill the mod. I tried it myself and now the mod wont change regions. I emailed casper at bluchip.dk but have not heard back from him yet. If he sends me an update to the mod i will let you know.

Email for bluraychip is casper@tridane.dk

cheers

Can someone clarify this for me. I bought my 93 in the first run of players and have since kept the firmware pre March 2012. I've done this so that I can maintain the ability to playback AVI and MKV burns to disc which were done as iso's.

Is it correct that such burnt discs are unplayable with Oppose whose firmware was updated after March?

The last FW compatible with ISO from attached storage is dated December 2011.

Thanks, blairy. That's good to know.

Man, what I'd give for a custom 93/95 firmware with all the latest improvements PLUS ISO support. Talk about dreaming the impossible dream…

Thanks to the suggestions in the other thread that I started, I picked up a BDP93 from Opposhop and it got delivered yesterday. Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet, but I can already see some (subtle) improvements in picture quality, mainly in movement over the PS3 and the Panasonic players that I have. I've been most impressed with the DLNA capabilities of the player though, so far it's played everything I've thrown at it without any transcoding or remuxing :)

New firmware now is officially released. I wonder what the delay is with the Pro-Mod? I also wonder why the standard mod works. Hmm.

Methinks I will await the mod update before going to the alpha firmware.

Installed the bluraychip.dk mod last night and it works like a charm. I am not interested in iso playback so can’t answer aHorseofCourse

Well, it hasn't been a success for em

Downloaded the rar files and extracted and I get the two .frm files. These are both 26kb in size. Anybody know if that's right?

Upgraded to latest Oppo FW. DVD's are still region free (I may have used the superdisc solution for DVD). When I turn the player on using button two or three it freezes during the boot up phase. Oppo splash screen on TV but screen on Oppo is blank and power light is a dim blue. Takes a while but I can turn it off using the remote.

Anyway, installed the modchip FW and it seems to take, but when I use the button sequence to test it nothing happens.

Disconnect network, rear usb and eSATA.

Power down and disconnect from mains. Still no luck.

Clear persistent storage, power down and disconnect from mains still no luck

Reset the player, power down, disconnect form mains and try it all again, still no luck.

I've tried three different usb sticks, all formatted to fat or fat32.

I'm at a loss with what to do next and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

I flashed the pro-mod BEFORE I updated to the new firmware and tested it was working there first. Then I loaded the Beta firmware again - which I already knew I could downgrade from to the previous release. Then after that tested OK I updated to the released version (which was unnecessary I guess as it is alledgedly the same as the beta)

All working good.

From my reading of the release notes, the new firmware broke the ability to press 1, 2 or 3 when it was off and for it to then change the region and switch it back on.

If you can, I suggest you revert to the last release that worked before the Beta - the April firmware and then flash the mod again..

Won't let me go back to a prior version of the Oppo FW. The process provided by bluraychip doesn't work. I'm guessing the new Oppo FW disables the modchip completely, not just the turn on function.

Have I go the file sizes right?

Well I tried David's suggestion again, only this time I went back to the beta version prior to this official version. From the Beta version I can roll back to my hearts content. Currently back to the April FW, however the modchip is not working at all.

Tried flashing it with 1h and also the 1.1a with no success.

On the Merlin Audio website they mention uninistalling the modchip to solve the problem.

Not sure if that simply means disconnect and reconnect or disconnect, reconnect Oppo in standard config (ie as if no mod chip) and power it up and then (power down) and reconnect mod chip.

Anyway, won't be happening tonight, but I might go back to the beta version and then revert to the ISO (December 2011) version.

I agree with what has been said about re the mod. At first I thought it had worked but then I found out that I was locked into Region A and DVD 1.

Will try a rool back but basically I think that the mod needs to be modded and 27kb does seem to be rather small in size.

The FW for 1 g was two 19 kb files; for 1h it was ywo 20 kb files.

This one is two 26 kb files which, based on prior upgardes, is about the mark.

Fair enough Blairy.

I have tried 3 different USB sticks (that have worked in the past) and when I press top menu - setup - red - 9 absolutely nothing happens.

Hopefully during the coming week we may get some answers

I emailed Casper at bluraychip.dk and already have a response...

From your description, the firmware update did not go well. If it does not power the player up when doing TOP MENU- SETUP-YELLOW-SIX sequence, then it is still the old firmware that are installed in the modchip.

Does your usb stick, that you are using for the update have a led ? And what is the brand/type ?

We have heard that some usb flash drives might not be working with the firmware update. Once you have initiated the firmware upgrade, the led on the usb flash should blink for about 5-6 seconds or more.

Might be obvious, but please check that the flash is indeed formatted with FAT or FAT32, and the files are placed in the root.

I have seen a lot of posts about diconnecting/reconnecting/reinstalling the mod, but that is not needed, also no need to revert to factory defaults or similar.

Anybody who's done this successfully care to post what brand and type of stick you used?

Thanks
