Anden Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) Once again from the depths of AVS, this time a little possitive news, same can be found on OPPO's facebook page, however it requires you to be running the latest official firmware apparently. Will work for the 93/95 and also the 103/105 when released. Oppo posted a link on their facebook page to a beta version of an Android app that can be used for remote control. It requires the latest firmware. If you have an Android phone, search for "Oppo Remote Control" in the app store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oppo.oremote.message http://www.facebook.com/OPPODigital Thanks to the original uploader for that bit of info. ( rakosnicek ) By the way, New public beta firmware. http://oppodigital.c...95-Support.aspx http://oppodigital.c...e-74-0908B.aspx Posted also in the new 103 / 105 thread Edited September 13, 2012 by Anden
isilver Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Do these firmware updates apply to the AU model, or just the US model?
Anden Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) Do these firmware updates apply to the AU model, or just the US model? ATM i'd err on the side of caution an say U.S. only, contact your reseller where you purchased and ask the question or email OPPO in the U.S. direct, their service is first rate. AU firmware will be different to U.S firmware. Edited September 13, 2012 by Anden
HomerJ Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I hope they continue with regular firmware updates for the 93/95 now that updated players are coming and 93/95 are no longer being made...
Anden Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I hope they continue with regular firmware updates for the 93/95 now that updated players are coming and 93/95 are no longer being made... Probably go the way of the 83, may get one or two a year...... Unfortunately.
David Williams Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Probably go the way of the 83, may get one or two a year...... Unfortunately. Unfortunately? I do have to ask why? It's not like they add that many new features - there are people on here running very old firmware - some have never upgraded. Their player works fine. Only bugger is new disk security and I would expect them to release updates to deal with compatibility issues as now.

Correct .... i spose, i am still running firmware on my 83 from at least 18 months ago, where as i am running currant up to date firmware in my 95 and had to update the promod for it all to work correcly again, since the 95 does nearly all the worki tend to update it ( fairly ) regular ( 3 or 4 times since purchase ) only mainly for disc playback/java garbage. With cinavia, it's still early on yet, but i'd be hopeful of a work around/defeat.--was that what you referred to as disc security ?
David Williams Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Kinda - I meant that sometimes updates are needed because of new disc security measures (like java BS etc). I don't anticipate a 'fix' for Cinavia - but I think the 93/95 are not getting cinavia anyway are they? Sure I read that somewhere.

Absolutely correct, no cinavia for the 93/95, only for the new 103/105 when released, which could/will make our players very worth while to hang onto, unless any circumvent comes out, but i'd like to think there may be some third parties already hard at work on it. As for standard player updates the only 2 important ones i've done for the 95 are mainly for the promod/and official firmware.
kpothuwila Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Hey guys I have a 93 with the Pro mod kit running the latest official firmware. After the latest firmware the region select didn't work so updated the mod chip firmware to 1.1a. Verified this by top menu-setup-yellow-6 -- yellow. Even after updating the mod chip it still can't change the region to B or C like it used to. Any ideas on how to fix this? btw tried emailing bluraychip.dk but no answer yet
Anden Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 You are running the official firmware, not the NEW BETA ? Did you follow these procedures after the update. " quote " Now press the YELLOW button on the remote, and the front panel display will after 1 second show the PRO modchip version number. It should read "1-1a" for this version. How to verify the region change: When powering up with new mod firmware installed, start up by pressing “3” to select region C. At next power up, the desired region (A,B or C) can be selected. To verify the region change is working as intended, power the player up, enter the setup menu, and press 0-7-7-0 on the remote control. A factory test page will appear. Confirm that the regions displayed are correct, and exit the menu again by pressing the setup button, (not the OK button). 2 If you have follow all other normal fault finders, Clear persistant storage Do a factory reset-----write down all your settings first. Last unplug the unit from the wall for up to an hour, and try again There were a few that had similar probs when they first did this 2 or 3 weeks ago, you'll need to go back through this thread to find what they did to fix. I have the 95 followed all the instructions in the PDF an all good . If all else fails contact whom you purchased the unit, Merlin/Gatti. Not OPPO. Hope that is of some help. Good luck,
raZorTT Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Hi I was wondering if anyone has been able to change the region using rs232? I emailed bluraychip.dk and they said it was possible, however it required a wire to be soldered inside the oppo, but they never got back to me when I asked if they could send through the instructions. Has anyone been sent those instructions and could pass them on? Cheers, Simon
blairy Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 New FW released 17/10/12 for those who don't care about ISO.
CHRIS08 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 ^^^ does that firmware solve the issue of when playing Fringe & Person Of Interest when you watch a ep instead of going to the menu after it finishes like other tv shows it just plays the next episode quite annoying that is
blairy Posted October 22, 2012 Author Posted October 22, 2012 No idea, best bet is to email oppo and tell them your issue. Include the bar code number of the disc you're having problems with.
bbar Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Question on the Au models. Does the firmware updates come from Oz or Oppo US and does it come at same time as US versions including the Betas?
Quark Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Bbar the firmware is distributed by International Dynamics - see here. The local firmware release is still 14 Aug (same date as previous US update), whereas a new US version was released 17 Oct. It does seem that the local updates aren't far behind the US. Not sure how the region free kits firmware compatibility is updated with the AU firmware versions vs US.
bbar Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Thanks Quark, and that would be issue with Pro kit and not standard right? Must be ok as Merlin sells AU model with a reg free kit but worth checking I suspect.
Quark Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Yep, the pro kit is the one that seems to be firmware sensitive, but it is much easier to set-up on a remote. Ken at Merlin does have a good relationship with the kit developer.
bbar Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Couple of quick questions as deciding between importing from US or buying local. Does the 93/95 Au models come with 1 or 2 year warranty and if one mods the player does that void warranty here? When I bought my 83 from Merlin he provided a one year warranty. Not sure what the go is with Au models though?
blairy Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Arrived in post today - currently setting this beauty up. blairy My BDP93's birthday today And I still remember how excited I was unpacking it and setting it up. Wife out tonight so will celebrate the birthday in appropriate style. For almost two years this thread was pretty much on the front page of the bluray section. Of course with the release of a new model, the old favourites start to fade I suppose. No doubt we'll see the occasional post when FW is released or people have issues or have forgotten how to do something. Thanks everybody. Cheers blairy
pasadena Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Does anyone have a link to the BDP9xAU-61-1219 firmware for the 95? Thanks
Quark Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Does anyone have a link to the BDP9xAU-61-1219 firmware for the 95? Thanks Try here - the firmware for the 93 and 95 is identical.

pasadena Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Try here - the firmware for the 93 and 95 is identical. That is a link to the US firmware, which I already have but was after the AU version of this firmware.....does it exist? There was some dicussion that the AU 95 models did come out with the this particular firmware, I also remember someone saying they have received one with a prior firmware to this again. I assume that you can't just apply a US firmware onto an AU model? How can you tell if you have a US or AU model Oppo without looking at the the firmware, is there info on the back of the machine that differentiates this? I haven't seen/used an Australia Oppo unit yet but does the firmware within the setup menu show AU somewhere in the firmware name? My U.S unit only shows BDP9x-61-1219. Were/are units provided by Merlin imported US units or should I say were the 93 and 95's imported and current 103/105's sourced AU models through the local disctributor? I thought Merlin imported the 103/105's as well from the US and supplied it with a pro mod? I know that International Dynamics are the AU distributor but Merlin also imported their own units, not through International Dynamics. Thanks Edited December 28, 2012 by pasadena
