wheelz Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Hi Guys, I've ordered the BDP-93 from Oppo direct using their rather expensive shipping via the "Express" post... Well my order was shipped on April 4 and from the tracking page it has left USA on April 5.. It is now April 19 and the tracking page hasn't been updated with anything besides it left USA.How long did it take for your orders to arrive? I've also ordered the $89 mod chip off bluraychip.dk and was shipped on April 1.. still haven't receive yet... and I've noticed they now have the standard for $89 and Pro for $149... If they updated their webpage earlier I would have got the Pro one The wait is killing me Normally postage from oppo is very quick(about a week)
bluebella Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 At the very least you should insist upon a refund for the very expensive express post option. Let us know how you get on.
Kurusawa Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I've just got an email from OPPO, they said that recently packages have been taking longer to clear customs in Australia. They will contact USPS for additional info.
flixyflox Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I've just got an email from OPPO, they said that recently packages have been taking longer to clear customs in Australia. They will contact USPS for additional info. A week was pretty standard delivery from Oppo. (And from amazon for one third the price.) Keep checking the tracker. dat good news! I am assuming my first chip was a faulty wiring one. postage from dk seems to take around 15 working days maybe a a bit more and easter is two days away. Re using a soniq for RB that's exactly what Ive been doing and while it's not too annoying (both it and Oppo plugged into their individual HDMI on the VW60) I am still painfully aware that the image and especially sound from the Soniq are not up to the Oppo. And - of course - after the 60% of region free Blus I own the majority of the remaining region fixed discs are B. My only As turn out to be Criterion and a couple of US Fox releases. B is much more readily applied to titles coming out of the UK and Europe - Moc, Bfi, Carlotta France, Gaumont. Kinowelt, Canal, UK Optimum/Universal, etc etc etc.
Guest Ode1 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) I organised a OPPO 93 Player with Amazon US Ordered Sunday Night April 5th and Received Friday Morning less than a week, That was $499 plus $36 I also ordered the Mod Chip from http://www.bluraychip.dk/product.php?id_product=15 I paid the $89.00 on the 3rd of April , Noticed the NEW pricing a couple of days latter, emailed them and was advised my order was shipping and it was the PRO version. Arrived Today 20th April and it is the PRO Version I pulled out the player , Fitted the MOD (VERY EASY ITS AS IF OPPO BUILT IT AND PULLED IT OUT CAUSE ITS A PERFECT FIT) Turned it on and put in a REGION B disc and it played fine Very easy I only emailed http://www.bluraychip.dk/product.php?id_product=15 once and got a reply within 24 hrs , I never got an email confriming the order Just a quick review of the player I found the wireless did not work till I updated the firmware with the disc enclosed with the player, and even then it was unstable, I tried to update via the NET but it failed, so I downloaded the ISO from Oppo and installed it. ALL OK Then I found the wireless worked FINE. (Note: Now the player is close to my PC I plugged it into my router) The Player is very fine indeed, it has a good weight to it, and the Transport has a nice weight to it also, you can feel the quality of the build OOZE from the player. I had TWO people tell me the NEVER HEARD of oppo (nor had I), but when I tell them that CAMBRIDGE AUDIO RE-BADGE them they soon shut up. I played SACD DTS and DVD AUDIO, DVD and BLU-RAY discs , no problems. I use the HDMI out and do not bother with the ANALOGUE OUTS as the AMP has great DACS onboard. I am very happy with the player thus far and I feel the MOD is the final piece of the puzzle. IF you had doubts DONT , go get one while the AUSSIE dollar is on fire. Edited April 20, 2011 by Ode1
bluebella Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 WOW. That's the anti-Oppo experience! You lucky bugger
Guest Ode1 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 WOW. That's the anti-Oppo experience! You lucky bugger Yeah sounds like it Thats why I wanted to post the info You can imagine when I placed my order and READ this topic I felt SICK to my stomach But all good.. So dont give up eh
blairy Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 I ordered 14 january when shipping was expected 26 january...does this mean I'll get the Pro+ version for compensation Anyhoo, good to hear your success story, but there are still a few around for whom this has not (yet) been successful. Good luck and enjoy Cheers blairy Well guess what was in my letter box around noon today...envelope from bluraychip (well tridane to be exact). reinstalled latest firmware (to turn off superdisc RF for DVD - just in case) installed mod chip - fiddly but quite simple put BDP93 back in rack, turned on using number two on remote and playing Region B BD and region four DVD's no worries. Turned off and reattached esata and rear usb and again turned on with number two and all is well. Cheers A very happy blairy - got my chip at bloody last
blairy Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 After my above post I've gone a bit berserk trying a range of different BD's and DVD's. All DVD's no issue (although I only have one non R4 disc). BD's that are Region B (and I know they're Region B cuz they didn't previously play on my BDP-93) all fine with one exception. The passion of the Christ comes up with wrong region message and yes I'm definitely in region B mode. Had this issue with this movie and the el cheapo region free Allure player (form Clive Peters). Anybody come across this before? If so is there a fix? The movie works fine on a (proper) Region B BD player (well PS3). Guess a note to Casper asking ofr a FW update might be in order blairy
blairy Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 And of course now that I have the mod chip successfully installed...I'm trying to program my Harmony One. Anybody got any clues on the easiest way to do this? Seems like I need to setup the BDP93 as three separate devices and custom the buttons (1, 2 and 3) to turn on for each region. Is there an easier way? blairy
djOS Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Just make a "Region A" & a "Region B" Macro Button "1" = A and Button "2" = B so it's a dead cinch. My macros look like this (BDP-83): Region A: power off, wait 10 secs (some BD's are real slow to allow power off), press button 1, wait 5 secs (no need to press power on for 83 as BDChip mod auto powers back on). Region B: power off, wait 10 secs, press button 2, wait 5 secs. from what i've seen the 93/95 process is very similar so just adapt the macro to suit.
genkifd Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 just rercieved my pro kit - look 4 days to deliver. pretty impressed. very easy to install and use. put it on standby mode and press 1 for Region A or 2 for Region B etc.

After that, if I want to change regions all I do is switch to 'Device' first on the Harmony, choose the Oppo (I think it's called DVD 2 on mine), press button 1, 2 or 3, then switch back to 'Activities' and start my Oppo activity up, which switches/turns everything else on (because the Oppo is already on and you're using discrete on/off codes, it simply stays on).

Thanks aHorseofCourse....although prior to reading your post.... I created (another) DVD device and named it Oppo AAA and a third DVD device called Oppo BBB. I then trained Oppo AAA to turn on with button 1 and turn off with discrete Off button and Oppo BBB to turn on with button 2 and off with discrete Off button. I now have three activities; 1) Oppo BDP93 which I use for all the functions you can use the Oppo for (bluray, dvd, cd, sacd, dvda, hdcd, HDD media, netowrk streaming and intrenet streaming) as I have been using it for the past few months 2) Bluray AAA for Region A discs 3) Bluray BBB used for Region B bluray discs. Obviously there's a bit of duplication here becasue all three activities can do just about everything anyway. To switch from Bluray AAA I select activities and select Bluray BBB. This leaves my TV and AVR as they were, turns off the Oppo and then (tries to) turn it back on using button 2. Sometimes the commands seem to be a bit too quick but the help function gets me there anyway. Will see if I can add a pause between off and (number) on commands. Of course your way is probably easier but arguably not for some of the neophytes in my household blairy

While there's certainly nothing wrong with your method, it does seem like major overkill to me. PS. Im assuming your remote allows you to do what I've suggested but I have heard that some logitech remotes are crippled and dont allow you to make your own custom macros within an activity. That way would be somewhat simpler that what I've done - yes it's overkill, but it's done now anyway Harmony One doesn't do macros but does do sequences, but you can't insert pauses in the sequence. With my setup wife and kids are kinda sorta forced to pick the region when they first turn on everything. Doing it the way you suggest would see my wife turn on system, insert disc, get shits cuz it's the wrong region and then get shits cuz there's more button pressing to do...."Why can't I just turn it on watch it?" My overkill way of doing this is not foolproof but will result in more hits than misses for wife and kids. Appreciate your input and thanks for your help. cheers blairy

blairy Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 that's funny your wife and mine must be sisters...lol roflmao...but more like members of the technophobic luddite sisterhood blairy
blairy Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 And that I've taken this thread so far off topic I probably deserve a reprimand from a moderator Been looking forward to watching the intro to QoS since I got this player before Christmas. Disc is Region B locked. Had the chance to watch this the other day and went for it with very high expectations...and my expectations were both met and exceeded for both PQ and AQ. Not just by me but even my "it's all such a big deal" sceptical teenage son was blown away (BTW the expression "it's all such a big deal" is usually expressed as BFD ) Also watched a few 3D movies now on the BDP93, latest being Tron. I'd been somewhat scpetical about 3D considering it a bit of a gimmick. Everyone who has seen it in my setup has walked away very impressed. And every time a put on an audio disc I am gob smacked...SACD and DVDA especially but all of them are impressive. cheers blairy

If you've previulsy tried the disc the player memory (or whatever it's called) comes into play and takes you back to where you last exited the disc. Press stop twice and away you go. blairy (sorry kinda ot again)

Hi Had a look on the Amazon site . Looks good . . I need something like this as my AVR is not 3D compat. and wiring direc to TV and then optical to the AVR is a pain. I assume they have a power adaptor for Australia or do you have to buy one seperate ? That $36 is for freight ? They do definetly ship to Australia ?, I cant get the order passed the final order stage

Yes it is very cheap freight - cheaper than buying direct from Oppo. I don't know why you can't get past the final order stage - recheck as a few have had no problems at all with their purchase..
