cwt Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Have been playing with the OPPO 93 a little.I am VERY HAPPY with the flac streaming. It is a little easier and a lot more stable than doing it from my NAS (netgear Readynas Duo) to my denon 3808. It may be my wife's and my imagination, but the oppo 93 with hdmi connection sounds far, far better than the denon 3808a streaming the flac. I don't understand why or how this could occur, so will do an A/B test later to see if we are imagining things. The OPPO also gives us an ability to do a random and/or shuffle. This was interesting from Neutron Benje ; shows how the different circuitry has an effect [even the digital] . Both methods certainly arent the limiting factor thats for sure http://www.jensign.com/BDP95USBStream/ Nothing but compliments from avs about 24/192 streaming as well [ a few free ones from 2l as you probably know ] Wheres my 95 ;cant wait
Benje Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Nothing but compliments from avs about 24/192 streaming as well [ a few free ones from 2l as you probably know ] Wheres my 95 ;cant wait done a couple of 5.1 96/24 free-loads from 2L, not a 192/24 2 channel yet. It will be some dvd-a rips to flac that will get me further excited. Benje
Benje Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Region-free mod chip (pro version) delivered in 10 and a half calender days from ordering.
norseman Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Having recently received my BDP-93 and region RF kit, I have been putting it through its paces. Not being interested in analogue, I think this machine is the goods with some nice features above the 83 which it replaces in my HT. Great value buying with the current AUD strength However, I would be very interested to hear from anybody that may have this machine with the Pro RF kit fitted and has a copy of Region A "Stop Making Sense". I cannot get this disc to play (due to region restriction). The RF kit is working on other region A coded discs that I have. Any feedback welcome...

Any feedback welcome... strange as it is a Reg A player and won't play a Reg A disc! Couple of suggestions... Insert the disc and when it comes up with wrong region message press stop button twice. This takes it out of the players memory. Eject and then reinsert and see how you go. If that doesn't work (and I'm presuming your using the bluraycip.dk mod) press stop twice, remove disc and turn off player. Then start player with the number button on remote that relates to the specific region your disc comes from. blairy

I cannot explain this, but today, after reading your post and wanting to try your suggestions, it is working fine. Last night I gave up and watched something else. However, that was after swapping back and forth between SMS and other region A disks to double check several times. I am using the bluraychip.dk mod and last night did everything you suggested except for hitting the stop button twice. If I encounter this again, I will try what you suggested. Thanks again.

harrislp Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) I was thinking of buying one of these players, and am wondering whether to get the standard mod kit or the pro version. Does anyone have the standard version, and if so does it work just as well as the pro? Are there any reasons to buy the pro other than the potential for upgrades and rs232 control? Also, is the Gattiweb mod kit the same as the Danish one? Thanks. Edited June 2, 2011 by lukeharris
MSB1503561349 Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I have the same question. I am particularly interested in the Gattiweb ones; they even have one which hooks up externally using the rear USB/RS232 ports, so no need to even open the machine. I like that - very simple. It seems to be only $85, which seems to me to be something of a bargain. I will call them up on Monday and see what they say.
MSB1503561349 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I just ordered the external mod kit from Gattiweb. I'm keen to see how it works once it arrives. They confirmed that it has the option to be installed externally or internally and the price is $85. Amazing!

blairy Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 The gattiweb mods are the same as bluraychip mods...you can tell by sussing out the photos on their websites and Dave at gattiweb has previously confirmed this too. Email him and ask With the pro mod you use the number pad to turn on the oppo in a specific bluray region (1 = A; 2 = B and 3 = C). You can program this into a universal remote and life is peachy. The standard mod requires the following steps/button presses: •By default, your bluray player is region free for DVD. To set the bluray region to A, B or C, please do the following: •1. Power on the player without any disc inserted. The screen will after a while show “No Disc”. •2. Press DIMMER, DIMMER, DIMMER, MUTE and then the region code. 1 for A, 2 for B, and 3 for C. •3. Power off your player. When started up again, the regioncode has changed. •Selecting the region code on the remote, must be done within 20 seconds. Depending on your universal remote...macros whatever, this may be one button for you. Having said that turning the BDP93 on and off and on involves HDMI handshakes and you'll need to pauses in your macros. The pro mod is the way to go as far as I am concerned and works flawlessly. If you're using the external mod you lose a USB port. OK if you have an eSATA HDD to connect (or stream everything). blairy
IanD1503559705 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 It looks like Amazon are only selling the BDP-93 via marketplace now: either the sellers don't ship internationally or the shipping price is ridiculous (eg $425). Bad news for those wanting to buy an Oppo 93 now: we were lucky we jumped in whilst Amazon were shipping to Australia. Hopefully Amazon re-stock and sell directly again: there certainly is a demand.

There are 20 in stock and the price has dropped $6.00 http://www.amazon.com/OPPO-BDP-93-Universa...5239&sr=8-1

djOS Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Except the seller won't ship to Oz - need to use a remailing service. Why not order direct from Oppo? (I did for my 83)
Mjr69 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Except the seller won't ship to Oz - need to use a remailing service. Apologies - instead of Amazon selling direct they are now using a reseller. I bought one on behalf of a friend only a couple of weeks ago (direct from Amazon) and from memory it was about $70 cheaper than buying it from Oppo direct. Damn, I was going to buy one for myself next month...

Yes, a shame Amazon is not selling direct - maybe they will reconsider if a few people contact them.
Carrera1963 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Finally got around to installing my bluraychip.dk Region Free kit on the weekend (after preordering & waiting 2 months for it to arrive, it sat on the shelf for 6 weeks!). Install was simple - turns out I got the Pro version - works fine, no problems
ekkaj Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Except the seller won't ship to Oz - need to use a remailing service. Wow, I was lucky. Ordered one from Amazon US last Wednesday and all went through ok. It is now on its way here!

Trigg Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I ordered mine from Amazon last Thursday night from Amazon. It is now waiting for delivery in Perth (public holiday here today.) Ordered my chip from .dk as well. Look forward to playing with it when it arrives, although need to wait fro the 64" Samsung PS64D8000 to arrive over next couple of weeks to get the full enjoyment out of it.
