Topend Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Just ordered my BDP-93 to use in the HT with my 64" plasma. The BDP-83 will now take up duties in our bedroom with the 50" plasma. I will try a 3D movie to see if I like it. I have Cars 2 3D on preorder so I will wait for it to arrive. Dave.

Benje Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) as posted earlier, I have had problems with my multi-region chip install, have had two attempts at email and have returned my chip. I tried again with Casper this week, and got a response within 24 hours, and apparently have a new chip in the mail. A different approach worked - I took the advice from here (? or somewhere) and did an email thaat was linked to my original order from tridane's website. I had my order number, but needed a password which the website sent me quite quickly. Anyway, I clicked on my order, saw the area to do an email response about my order, and got a 'casper' email in return the next day. I had failed miserably trying the general email accounts at Tridane - Casper suggests those might be getting blocked by his spam filter... Anyway, it is starting to look like good news. Fingers crossed. Benje Edited September 21, 2011 by Benje
aHorseofCourse Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 New Official 57-0917 firmware up on Oppo's site. I haven't tested myself but it's reported to be working fine with the Pro mod kits:-)

709er Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Thanks - that's good to know. Has anybody tried playing Spy Kids 1 and/or 2 (US region A locked)? Purchased both for school holiday viewing, but the oppo 93 will not load up either of their menus. All OK on the cheapo Soniq, but that's in the bedroom Just wondering if the new firmware update would help We're on slowed speed internet ATM, so will need to wait until the 1st of the month - if that's a potential fix. I don't like updating unless it's a worthy update. Always worried something's going to go wrong

However with bluray players generally (not just Oppo) the firmware upgrades address issues with recently released discs. Essentially, you'll need to upgrade fairly regularly so you can keep up with the new release discs. blairy
Gumball Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Had had 2 faulty Pro mods now, both start up with 1,2 or 3 pressed but the region never changes. Did the Firmware update and still does not work. First one was sent back and the seller admitted it was faulty and now a second dud - frig...

wheelz Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 anyone able to tell me where i can buy an oppo player from in melb? thanks Gatti web is where you want http://www.gattiweb.com/bluraymod.html
blybo Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 (edited) Anyone updated then used super disk region mod? I tried this on my new 93. I burnt 3 different CD-R disk types, data, disc image and iso. None of them worked... and yes I extracted the super folder first. Anyhoo, regarding mod kits, is there any preference in where to purchase? I don't really need the pro version as we are not in the habit of importing disks, just want to be able to play our locally purchased discs. I must admit I'm rapt with the CD sound from the 93, running analogue back to my amp. So I'm using the cd input for CD's and hdmi input for DVD's and BR... not that I've been able to play and video yet. I still have all my disc's in boxes from a recent move and I know there are several region 1 dvds in there from the early days of DVD. Must hunt a few of them down. I think there were only 6 local titles when I bought my 1st DVD player Edited October 2, 2011 by blybo
trevsy Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 anyone able to tell me where i can buy an oppo player from in melb? thanks Sent you a PM tarky, grab it from Amazon it is cheaper.
blybo Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Sent you a PM tarky, grab it from Amazon it is cheaper. Got mine from Amazon couple of weeks ago. Even with a falling AUD strength it was still only $560 to my door. Now I just need to get the mod chip done and we are good to go.
wheelz Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Sent you a PM tarky, grab it from Amazon it is cheaper. Im presuming he wanted local warranty as to the reason he wanted to buy from melb, tho if thats not the case i would also recommend amazom.

Felix.. Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Is a mod chip needed if buying from the US? The answer is probably. The Oppo will be natively Region A coded so if you want to play local Aussie region B locked titles on it then you'll need it chipped. But if you are just going to be buying movies exclusively from Amazon US or already have another Region B player e.g. PS3 then you won't likely need it chipped.
wheelz Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) Is a mod chip needed if buying from the US? For blu ray you'll pobably need it but if not there is a software mod(free) to make it region free for dvd. If your after the standard mod this seems like the best deal in aus http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OPPO-BDP-93-BDP...=item25662e7560 or overseas http://www.ebay.com/itm/OPPO-BDP-93-95-BLU...=item1c1bb453bb Edited October 3, 2011 by wheelz
