Quark Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Yes, I was a little concerned when my 95 didn't power up, until I discovered the voltage selection switch!! D'oh! Wow, it survived 230V when switched for 110V! That's impressive - maybe some protection circuitry kicked in.
blairy Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 New firmware released today. Removes ISO but fixes 720p upscale bug and addresses issues with new discs (Hugo, Puss in Boots etc). blairy
jdh500 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Out of interest why have they removed ISO support. JDH
Quark Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 The studios threatened legal action if they didn't remove ISO support.

David Williams Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Interesting Gatti doesn't seem to have reached an agreement with IDA yet. Merlin has though.
blairy Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 DVD 16:9 display 'cropped' Cropped is the wrong word I expect. Recently played a couple of DVD's (Treasure Planet and From Russia With Love). I have HDMI 1 direct to TV. Neither of these discs fills the entire screen. From top to bottom is OK, however the image is an inch or so short of reaching the sides of the screen. With From Russia... I also checked on the HDMI2 output which runs through my Denon AVR 3808 and the image is full screen. Played around with wide/auto and PAL/NTSC/Multi settings and no difference. I'm guessing qdeo doesn't like something in some DVD's? NB: These discs are region 4 PAL (Australia) in case that matters cheers blairy
blairy Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Oppo pointed out that if I'm comparing HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 I need to change vide primary output. Did this and both outputs are displaying with bars on side. Oppo also aske that I use SOurce Direct instead of 1080P. When I do this, screen is filled - no bars. I've advised Oppo of these results and await thewir response, but all seems to be working as it should. blairy
CHRIS08 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Finally GOT arrived went to play wont load at all just a black screen im guessin it has to do with the firmware. I havent installed any apart from what was installed when i bought it from the group buy here. The thing is do i have to upgrade the mod with firmware aswell, if so i cant remember what mod was installed in my player. Do i upgrade mod firmware 1st or oppo firmware 1st. Hopefully someone can help me i dont wanna brick my player LOL.
Quark Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 I haven't seen any mention of a new release of the mod firmware - 1.0g is the latest I've seen. If you haven't loaded 1.0g cos you're on some ancient version of the Oppo firmware that didn't upset the mod, you will need to load it. Doubt that there's any sensitivity to which order they're loaded in.
CHRIS08 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 ^^^ wasnt there 2 mod chips available??? Im not sure which one is in my machine, lol.
Quark Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 ^^^ wasnt there 2 mod chips available??? Im not sure which one is in my machine, lol. The version where you push multiple buttons for a region change hasn't needed any firmware updates. The "single button" region change kit was the one that was frozen with two of the Oppo firmware updates mid last year.

Now press 1 to select Zone A, 2 for Zone B & 3 for Zone C. according to what you wrote, this method needs to mod to be upgraded is that correct.

Hi mate, I have an oppo93 also from GB and several of GOT disks did the same, blank screen and no response from player, wouldn't eject even. Had to turn player off, then pressed eject to open and pressed again to close. This got the disks to eventually load but disk 3 took 3 goes to load. I haven't done any firmware updates either.
blairy Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 Game of Thrones is being mentioned over on AVS as problematic... The reports on Game of Thrones sound to me like it is having problems doing something it wants to do over the network. For folks with BD-Live OFF it may be trying networking functions (which it shouldn't even be trying to do with that disabled) and timing out -- again and again -- as it tries to do whatever it is the silly studio programmers have tasked it to do. It may be the trick here is to turn networking off altogether to keep it from even trying. For folks with BD-Live ON it may be running into server slowness. This is a fairly new release and the studio's servers may not be handling the access load well. So far, it appears the discs WILL load if you are just patient. Why it is taking so long (a couple minutes) is still a mystery as far as I know. There seem to be some reports of folks getting normal (quick) loading times, but I don't know what the trick is to insure that. In general, if you have problems loading any disc, it is wise to Erase Persistent Storage before trying again. blairy

The instructions are included in the zip file. Format the USB stick to FAT32 or 16, not NTFS. Some reports of issues with some brands of stick and/or sizes > 4GB. At worst the stick won't be read.
Quark Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Not sure - but have not heard any reports of incompatible sticks causing any damage - they either work or the new firmware isn't read at all, so no harm.
CHRIS08 Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 ^^^^ thanks for all your help. Upgraded the mod firmware, then the oppo firmware its all good. Now i can watch Boardwalk Empire properly & also Game Of Thrones that title takes a bit longer to load then others. Cheers.
wheelz Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Does it say "upgrading" or anything like that when it happens? I tried but havent noticed any difference.

I thought I read somewhere the Pro firmware only needs updating if you applied an Oppo firmware update when something was plugged into rear USB port. I have a BDP-95 and Pro region mod kit and have always updated Oppo firmware from front USB without anything in rear and I've never had any problem including playing UK GoT with no problem. I have never updated the Pro firmware. The latest Pro firmware is 1.0h with change being a serial interface (see Gattiweb), I assume meaning user can change regions via serial (RS232) interface so I may update to this if my experimenting with Roomie and/or iRule and iTach IP/serial device works out ok Edited March 26, 2012 by HomerJ

Installing the updated mod firmware fixed it. Perhaps you don't have any Region B locked discs. Note the 1.0h firmware is only for players shipped from November 2011 - see here for details (click on the Pro Kit Support tab). Edited March 26, 2012 by Quark
dea Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I have been using a western digital external hard drive into the oppo via the front usb to play hi res music files, works well with no problems, However I just bought a new WD passport elements drive and this only works intermittently. At other times the oppo cycles continuously through "usb in" and "usb out". The new drive is fine when connected to a computer and receives/sends files without problems. Just wondered if anyone could suggest whats wrong? Thanks in anticipation.
com59841503560232 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 I've got one of these and I formatted it and got rid of all the wd crap
dea Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I've got one of these and I formatted it and got rid of all the wd crap Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I tried formatting both quick and full, both NTFS and FAT. Didn't fix the problem and the FAT format wouldn't read at all. Further "research" suggests a similar problem with some usb sticks. I tried four 4Gb sticks, two work perfectly two suffer from random dropouts. I guess this is same problem seen with upgrades to the region free mod - that some usb sticks do not work. Can only assume the oppo is sensitive to some characteristic of the drives. Problem is I have no idea what this is so choosing drives is a problem. Converting the flac files to wav with dBpoweramp seems to have fixed the problem, possibly also sound marginally improved. Edited March 28, 2012 by dea
