blairy Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Straight from the Bluraychip firmware programmer, apparently. PM me an email address and I'll send you the PDF file that was posted as well. STANDARD/BASIC MOD: 1. Disconnect ethernet, and any USB devices and power up the player with no disc in the tray. 2. When it displays "no disc" wait for approx 4-5 seconds, and press GREEN-2-2 on the remote. 3. Press "setup" on remote. 4. Scroll down to "Device setup" 5. Place the bar on "Firmware Upgrade" 6. Press RED-8-5-2-0 on the remote. 7. Exit menu again by pressing setup button, NOT the ok button. 8. Now you can downgrade the firmware with the use of a usb stick, just follow the usual instructions from Oppo. PRO MOD: 1 Disconnect ethernet, and any USB devices, and power up the player with no disc in the tray. 2 Press "setup" on remote 3 Scroll down to "Device setup" 4 Place the bar on "Firmware Upgrade" 5 Press RED-8-5-2-0 on the remote. 6 In this menu, press 1-1-4 on the remote. 7 Exit menu again by pressing setup button, NOT the ok button. 8 Now you can downgrade the firmware with the use of a usb stick, just follow the usual instructions from Oppo. Obviously you'll also need the FW you want to reinstal...link in post above. This link also includes the Oppo instructions for updating from USB which you will need. NB: FW upgrades are not to be taken lightly, they sometimes brick your player. Do this at your own risk...or don't do it. It worked for me, but I'm not aware of anyone else who has done this...succesfully or otherwise. Cheers blairy I can't edit my original post. If you only have the standard mod, whilst the above instructions will work, it is also possible that Oppo may change the FW key in which case your player will be bricked. The likliehood of this happening...probably slim....the likliehood of you being pissed off if your player is bricked...vey high. As mentioned in original post you do this at your own risk. blairy Edited April 13, 2012 by blairy
blairy Posted April 14, 2012 Author Posted April 14, 2012 (edited) Played Bruce Springsteen's London Calliing yesterday and noticed (again) that during track five at ~24:25 there is a glitch in the video. Most of the video is shot from the audience perspective. A couple of times during this concert movie it is shot from behind the band. At the above mentioned time stamp we're behind one of the guitarists and beyond him is the crowd (lower portion of the screen) and the sky. There is a band say two inches deep across the top of the screen - video seems garbled or distorted. Anybody able to check this? I've noticed it in a couple of other spots too; always the same scenario. Tried this on the BD and TV in the bedroom and it's not an issue. blairy Edited April 14, 2012 by blairy
pasadena Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) I'm on the December firmware so I'd like to utilise the feature of SACD/DVD-A iso file playback. I've looked around and couldn't find a straight forward answer to my question and do apologise for asking and I have been searching. How exactly do you play sacd.iso files off an external esata HDD? I've used the Home page to traverse to the directy where the sacd iso sits but it doesn't see it. Is there a trick of some sore that I've missed? And what about DVD-A iso's, does the same apply. I assume BD iso should work straight off? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Edited April 18, 2012 by pasadena

I recall however someone saying that for ISO files of DVD-A you have ot access these through the movie menu on the homepage (and not the music menu which is where you'd expect to see them I guess). Have you tried via the music menu? How are you creating ISO's of SACD's. I've heard of it being done but understood it to be a bit tricky? blairy
cwt Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I converted my 5.1 dvd a's to lossless flac pasadena and along with my 2ch cd flacs play back with the oppos music icon. For some reason they also appear as expected under my movie icon but dont play .. Easily be a screwed up dnla thing in my case though I use dvd-a extractor for converting to flac ;if I can manage this ;its easy Sacd iso requires a early ps3 fat and a lot of hacking -hard have you managed ? http://www.dvdae.com/ BDiso' s with the allready listed firmware play straight using esata or usb as well as 3d frame packed bd iso
pasadena Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) Yes, I'm on December firmware (1219). I can confirm I can play BD Iso's and DVD-A iso's from the home menu via the movie icon off a connected external esata dock. DVD-A iso's confirm as playing as MLP and are DVD Audio discs. A Good start. I still can't work out how to play SACD iso's though. They show up in the movie icon but are not playable and do not show up under the music icon. I have a PS3 60GB fat console which plays SACD's. I've already flashed the firmware and have successfully ripped an SACD via the network daemon. This was all pretty easy, including flashing the firmware. It's all not as hard as what people think this process is. Once it's all setup, you can start backing up your SACD collection to iso's. I use DLNA to connect to my network server o play my flac files and other audio formats, as well as other media files but music and concerts will be access from an attached HDD to the oppo. I just need to work out how to play SACD iso's so I'll have to start scouring the net again on how to do this. Has anyone here at all managed to play SACD iso's? If so, I'd like to hear from you. Cheers Edited April 19, 2012 by pasadena

You CAN burn those ISO files to a blank DVD and play them back that way, but that won't really suit your needs. Your best bet would be to convert the extracted tracks to FLAC (I'm not sure how this is done with a PS3 SACD rip but I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere) and store and play them that way.

I have burnt an SACD iso to a blank DVD and plays as an SACD so no problem there. I don't mind playing SACD-r's and I will extract them as diff and convert them to flac as well to add to extrnal storage. I just heard from around the traps that people have been able to play sacd iso files directly so curious how they've been able to do that. If I can't then that's fine. If I do then I can share the info. Cheers Edited April 19, 2012 by pasadena

Sorry, but this same issue popped up on AVS Forums a while back and the answer was a definite no. SACD ISO is actually the only ISO format the 93/95 (with non-updated firmware, of course) won't play. All I can think of is that maybe Foobar can mount and stream SACD ISOs as individual files.

That's what I've done. I'm setting up foobar now to stream SACD iso's to the 93, which can do everything else as well. Out of curiosity, is there a preferred media server to stream to the 93? I've tried oshare (crap - keeps maxing out CPU half the time). There's something called a miniserver which I believe the people on the Linn forum use.
cwt Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Since you can have multiple server/transcoders running pasadena try asset for the audio files. Worked great before I got a NAS with its own http://www.dbpoweramp.com/asset-upnp-dlna.htm

Hello, First of all a small presentation : I am the owner of a BDP-95 player, which I "accidentally" upgraded to a non-iso supported firmware... Hence I would like to downgrade to a firmware supporting this feature, that I use! While reading the above, I was thinking that this would help me, but it didn't... . Could someone help me??? 1st of all, I have an EU version (hence I have downloaded the BDP9xEU-61-1219 firmware on my usb key). I don't know which of the 2 methods I should apply, hence I tried both. Both were unsuccessful... In fact, after the firmware downgrade, it shows that I still have the BPD9xEU-65 version... Any idea on how I can tackle this? Any hints? Thanks in advance! Do you have a region free modification installed in the player? If so, what key combination do you use to change regions?
pasadena Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) I was just going to ask what mod was installed. I have a pro mod installed in my 93 and the previous owner had already upraded to the latest firmware. Following the above instructions, I was able to successfully downgrade to the december firmware, The key is to have a mod installed and to make sure where your opppo orignated from so you can source the correct firmware. I know it was mentioned that most mods used the same chip manufacturer. Either you haven't followed the instrcutions correctly or you have an unknown mod installed or none installed at all. After apply the downgrade procedure, I installed the december fimware via usb. You may want to also check you have the correct firmware. I have heard different versions of previous firmware floating around so you need to use the MD5 file to check you have the correct file. Edited April 25, 2012 by pasadena

I have region free (for DVD) and area free (for Bluray) installed in the player. But I don't think I have any manipulation to do to change any regional settings... The player would do that for me... nicely!

But I don't think I have any manipulation to do to change any regional settings... The player would do that for me... nicely! Sounds like you may have the "superdisc" software installed - this makes the player region free for DVD and there's no requirement to change regions with a key combination. The hardware mods that allow region selection for blu-rays all require key combination to change regions. It doesn't sound like you have one of these installed. In this case you can't rollback to earlier firmware.

Anden Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 indeed! How could I know for sure what is installed? Pop the bonnet and look, if still unsure google RF mods oppo BDP 93- 95. Or go to the Bluray.dk site to check em out, so ya know what your looking for. Did you buy brand new, second hand , hand me down . EU Firmware will probably differ from the U.S. firmware and is the case of the AUST firmware if i'm not mistaken. Almost all of us here have the U.S. machines, where " Flashing--downgrading" of firmware is possible, but do this at your own peril, you can brick it. ISO playback is a non issue for me personally, so i upgraded to the newest U.S firmware without a hitch, if i want that feature i'll stream it or use a media tank that will take a lot of ISO's
David Williams Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 My Oppo was offered yet another new firmware last night. 'twas only a day ago I checked the Oppo site too and there wasn't even a beta available. Weird.

Just to clarify for the OP, you need one of the bluray.dk mod kits installed to rollback to an earlier firmware version.
