Zelig96 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 After the huge amount of rain last night, the fact that the line will never drop out on cable will also be a factor for me... I wouldn't say "never" - it can still drop out in really bad storms, but it will be a hell of a lot less frequent than Satellite drop outs. My main reason for switching will be to get all the FTA channels via Optus Cable that I can't get on Foxtel Satellite (Sydney).

If I am no worse off price wise on a 12 month contract with Optus HD (after 'installation' costs of Optus IQHD) compared with my current Foxtel HD, then the extra FTA channels and lack of dropouts will be enough to change.
Zelig96 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Just spoke to Optus about pricing. I currently have Foxtel Satellite (Sydney) on the Platinum HD package plus one multi-room outlet (standard box). I pay $130/mth for the Platinum HD and $15/mth for the 2nd outlet (standard box) = $145/mth. Same set up with Optus TV will cost the following:- Platinum $106.95/mth (bundled price - I have home phone & cable internet with Optus, otherwise add $10). iQHD Box $10.00/mth Multi Room $20.95/mth (standard box) -------------- Total $137.90/mth With Foxtel PlatinumHD you also get access to Foxtel Download, but I have never used it. No mention of Download with Optus. Foxtel also gives you the magazine - not sure about Optus, but I never read the magazine anyway so don't need it. If we make the switch, I will probably go with 3 outlets now that we have a High Def LED TV in the bedroom. Might as well make all 3 outlets iQHD too (so the kids can record every episode of SpongeBob on their own QHD box instead of cluttering up our main iQHD box). On Optus, that will cost $157.90 per month (ie another 2 x $10/mth for 2nd & 3rd outlets to be iQHD boxes). It was a little unclear if there is no monthly Multi-Room charge for the 3rd outlet or whether they were giving it to me for free, but I'm happy either way. To get 3 x iQHD with Foxtel would cost $180/mth (ie $130 for Platinum HD plus 2 x $25 for 2nd & 3rd outlets to be iQHD boxes).
ozboy Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 On a bundled package, Basic + Sports + HD is $70/month & $100 for installation on a 12 month plan, which is $14/month cheaper than Foxtel.
CameronH Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) So is this new Foxtel on Optus deal allow me to get it in Austar regions? It says no where about where I can and can't get it. Edited February 9, 2011 by CameronH

There is no way you can go that low with Optus. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1496480

Are you sure? My reading of their pricing for Basic + Sport is $60 per month + IQ2 $100 for equipment and $10 per month + HD when it is available a further $10 per month, would equal $80 per month. I'd like to be wrong...

I was just quoted (for the same package you mentioned): Platinum $127/mth (Not bundled price - presume take $10 off if bundled) iQHD Box $20.00/mth Multi Room $10.00/mth (standard box) -------------- Total $157/mth Note - this does not include pricing for the HD programming. Optus woman (who seemed very uninformed) had no idea when HD would come out, but said it would cost an additional amount to the above quote - ie the $20/month extra for iQHD box is just for the box, not for any additional content. She tried to tell me to install now, so I'd be "ready" when HD was released - in other words, I'd be paying $20/month for a bigger hard disk. In addition, there would be an install fee of $199 for the HD iQ, and $99 for the standard iQ. They already don't seem very interested.
BamBBBam Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 While Foxtel charge $200 for a new IQHD install, and $100 for an IQ standard install. Just blink and they will waive the IQ fee, and reduce the IQHD fee to $100. Will Optus be doing that?

There is no way you can go that low with Optus.http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1496480 My 2 year contract with Foxtel just ended, so I was all set to go the bargain route with Foxtel until Optus came back into the picture. The key is that I am on Foxtel Satellite, but would be on Optus Cable. I spent the whole of last year watching F1 on tiny internet streams because we don't get OneHD on Foxtel Satellite and I can't get OneHD on Digital FTA either due to reception issues at my location. I guess it comes down to how much I am prepared to pay to get OneHD. Perhaps I should stick with Foxtel and use the monthly savings to pay for some work on my FTA antenna to try to get OneHD reception.

When I rang Optus and went through their IVR system they didn't even have an option of new Digital TV sales. I think I ended up going through Broadband Sales and when I got a human, told them I was ringing about Digital TV. Strange that we got totally different pricing. Also I was told there would not be any additional charge for the HD channels once they became available.

Re HD channels, couldn't get anyone being able to tell how much they would cost, but wouldn't expect more than $10 additional (that's just my hope).

Interesting - I was quoted $199 and then $20/month. I couldn't find anything on their website. Are you able to post a link? Thanks.

It is difficult to post a link to the Digital TV pages on the Optus website because they work on sessions that expire. To find the Digital TV prices on their website, follow these steps. 1. Go to www.optus.com.au 2. Click on the BUNDLES tab. 3. Click on the 'yes' Fusion Bundle 4. On the left hand side in the blue box, the last item on the list is DIGITAL TV - click on that and you are at their Digital TV pricing page. Edited February 16, 2011 by Zelig96

plt43 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 'Bundled' means you have to have another Optus service such as mobile phone, internet or home phone yes - and these are the prices showing for bundled service, so $80 for basic+sports+IQ2+HD when it arrives, + installation cost.
Dilmar Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 IQHD is $100 install standard from Optus!! I think it's $100 only if bundled. Was told by Optus that standard unbundled iiQHD install is $199.
ozboy Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 yes - and these are the prices showing for bundled service, so $80 for basic+sports+IQ2+HD when it arrives, + installation cost. The $70 was what the salesperson told me. I even asked him to repeat it to be sure (since it was cheaper than I expected). Maybe he cocked up, maybe it was done to get me on board straight away???
DansDans Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Sometime within the last week the HD channels were activated on Optus cable. Last week I tested a Foxtel IQ2 unit on the Optus cable line and I was only receiving the SD channels (no HD channels or any FTA, which is usual) Today I plugged the same unit back into the Optus line and the Foxtel HD channels (again, no FTA - SD or HD) were working Hope thats good news for you guys

But I could be wrong, Do we get all the channels that are currently available on Foxtel Cable or is Optus Cable the same as Foxtel Satellite? ( I am in sydney and do get most of the FTA channelgs but dont get the FTA HD channels). Also is it actually now fully available for everyone? or are we still waiting on things....
