Nice malewis ! I recently picked up an original pressing of London Calling but am yet to have a listen. Also picked up Iron Maiden - Powerslave on Saturday night, encouraged by the Iron Maiden special on Max(foxtel). My first I.M album ever....

good pickups mal ! isnt discogs pretty cool, as with music stack. just as a heads up, only pay by paypal, and even then be wary, never just end money via paypal to an email address, will have no recourse. ask sellers to send you a paypal request to pay, which will have a paynow button you can click. will give you some come back if things go pear shaped for any reason. have bought a few good discs this way. good way of scouring the world for discs that are really hard to find :)

Yeah

You have to be careful but all sellers so far have asked me to pay via paypal, even though one wanted me to pick up his transaction fee (I didn't LOL) and one tried to adjust the shipping cost (I cancelled.).

One of my early purchases was the Isaac Hayes Black Moses - this is the noisiest LP ever, I'll have to try cleaning or something as I can't stand to listen to that much surface noise!! - I didn't realise that grading ignored surface noise, traps for young players!

By the way does anyone know of a commerical record cleaning operation - I found one in Qld but you have to send 25 discs, I only have 2 problem children at the moment?

Cheers

I picked up Piece of Mind, powerslave and Number of the Beast on original CD(again I had all of these on vinyl back in the day!!!).

I also picked up an original Stone Roses S/T on vinyl plus the In Rainbows deluxe 45rpm vinyl/cd set - I haven't listened to the SR yet but In Rainbows is fantastic, just a bit annoying changing the 45 rpm discs so often!!

but yeah other TTs around as well, be sure to check out around same price. but yeah a real shame if all those LPs going unplayed ! be quite a thrill when finally get a chance playing them :)

There is a world exclusive review of the Denon 100-year anniversary TurnTable in the latest Hi-Fi Choice (I think; I purchased several hi-fi magazines two weeks ago and can't remember which one reviewed this TurnTable). It was reviewed with a pair of Mordaunt-Short Performance 2 standmount loudspeakers, powered by the matching Denon 100-year anniversary 2-channel integrated amplifier.

They were very impressed with the TurnTable, and also the integrated amplifier, and thought that the Performance 2's were sonically very compatible with this combination.

Where are your pics? With the TT? :D

My pics are not far away now. Have taken pictures via my brother-in-law's camera and need my sister to e-mail the pictures to me and then I shall need Justin (Bladernr) to help me to upload them, because I am useless with these kinds of things.

No TurnTable, though. Haven't had a chance to listen to any set-ups, unfortunately.

You sound like you work in management...;)

Edit: Not sure if this'd help... But Douglas hifi seems to sell some turntables linky. They validate parking too (whatever that means)... I was thinking about a clearaudio but changed my mind (I think when it comes to TT it's best to buy locally :ninja:)..

So_Long_And_Thanks_For_The (ozcal) and Flemo are pretty experienced with TT too. May want to shoot them a PM if you have any questions...

Show us the pics.. :ninja:

Not quite, but feel like a Manager sometimes. :D

Thanks for the link to Douglas Hi-Fi, and also suggesting those couple of guys.

I think that I am a little afraid to explore the dark side.

Thudd gave me a TT. For some reason after moving things around I seem to have broke or misaligned something... Not sure what and don't have time to fix it.. If you're interested you can have this TT to explore? And maybe have ozcal or flemo fix it if they can.. It's a Scott TT.

In the end I've decided to stick to a digital based system .. :P

If you're after LPs you can go to the annual book fair at UWA, or find Gumtree..

Wise man - the dark side can have very deleterious effects on one's bank balance! :ninja:

Thanks for the offer, regarding the Scott TT. I shall get back to you on this.

Cool no worries... Sadly it's not in a good state right now :ninja:, but at least it'd give you a very very rough idea..

Update!

Well, I got my Apollo :D. Review is here.

Back to the turntable however - I purchased a couple of things to do the alignment of the cart (A Ortofon alignment bloke plastic with the hole already precut, gotta be more accurate than paper!). I had a set of scales loaned to me too, so I was able to adjust it fairly well. Really took my time and I think I got it right :).

In the meantime I found someone to have a look at my amp for me as I did some fiddling and found that the amp was the reason for the quietness in one channel. It was in all the inputs but most noticeable on the turntable input (Got the sound meter out!).

I told him to take his time as I wasn't fussed how long it took as long as he got it right.

3 weeks later I was starting to get a bit toey :D I didn't think I would miss it so much !! He was nearly done with it, had cleaned it up. Fixed most of it, fired it up, and BANG - My NAD had gone to the NAD gods, they wanted it more than me :(. The technician had a look at what blew up and although he could have repaired it, probably wouldn't have been worth it. Bloody hell, more money, now I need a new one! What's more this one was borrowed - Whoops!

It just so happened that the technician had a pre-amp he hadn't advertised yet for sale, with a MM board in it and the MC board with it which I could install later. I was toey and I wanted to play some records!

I also just happened to pick up a 5 channel Power Amplifier with the intention of giving the NAD amp a rest and just using the pre-amp side of it. Was this a coincidence? I don't think so!

So Saturday just gone in the rain off I went to pick up this pre-amp. The bloke was really good about it and said if I don't like the sound of it I could bring it back to him, nothing to lose. I don't know if I got a good price for it or not as I don't know the brand at all. It's a Myryad MP100 Pre. I was very excited when I got home.

Hooked it all up, and I bi-amped my Whatmough P12's into my MM9000 Amp from the Myryad and cranked over the turntable.

Well, I though the NAD sounded good, this Myryad mated to the Marantz is awesome! I'm in love all over again, the detail is astounding. If I HAD to be critical (Nit picking here) I would say it's a little lacking down below but wow, it sounds bloody awesome. I tried the Apollo on the pre-amp as well, it sounded better also. Have to remember though, it's pretty much a completely different system except for the speakers, even the Ortofon would sound different as now it's properly aligned...

Happy days - Just cost me WAAAAY more than I wanted, I think the wife is happy enough though - however she has also said I am done now, I might allow that for now - Got plenty of media to stock up on

On a negative side note to finish off, I sent the cart back - after the shop went ahead and checked it anyway - charged me for it - fought it, but lost, it wasn't the cost but the principle. Apparently they had checked it when I told them not to bother - it took them a week however to tell me this! The cart was sent and eventually received in Germany, they found it faulty and have replaced it and sent a new one back - I don't want it! I have e-mailed asking if I can send it back for a refund so hopefully they will come to the party, I don't like my chances though. They obviously ignored me the first time when I asked for a refund - annoying...

So if anyone wants a brand new un-used Ortofon 2M Blue Cart for what it costs me (About $180 I think, will confirm) let me know! I will advertise it properly later!

Anyway, all in all, very happy - I can't wait to get home just to listen to it again :P

Nice one Oak ! Sometimes these "bangs" thens a puff of smoke happen for a reason :winky:

Best of luck with the refund on the new cart, though by the time you ship it back to Germany, you might be better off just sticking it up on Oz ebay or SNA. They're a popular cart and i don't imagine you'll have too much trouble getting $180 for it being brand new and all.

I got my first 180g lp today, The Doors. I only had a chance for a quick listen before dinner, hardly time for everything to warm up so hard to judge but early signs are promising. I can't wait for Rumours 2lp in 45rpm.

Just on the packaging from amazon, the lp's were in seperate cardboard packages and then in a bigger package with those air filled plastic bags. Safe enough, also I'm still awaiting rumours which should ship this week so I thought I would add clapton "unplugged" to the order. I purchased it and it included another postage fee. I looked at how to combine the two orders and save the postage so got into a chat session with someone from customer support. i explained what I was trying to do, so after waiting a few minutes she come back and told me they have cancelled my last order for clapton and added it to my earlier rumours one.

I thanked the rep and then asked if I would be refunded the postage, she came back with, I would not be charged for any of the order they were just adding it to rumours for free.

Thank you amazon

I've used that chat to a customer service person on Amazon several times.

Have found it very helpful and I highly recommend it

I listened to my first NEW Vinyl on Tuesday night - WOW! I really need to do some work cleaning up my old records, I didn't realise how poor they sound until I put a new one through it, no scratchy noises, nothing!

Might have to invest in a decent cleaner...
