Has anyone been able to use this with a Region A Bluray? Is it as simple as a VPN or some other technique I can use to d/l movie?

Just wondering have you 'googled' Ultravoilet and seen what other forums might have asked / discussed about these discs ??

eg - created an 'account' ?? (who knows where - but you can guess that it wont be in Australia)

do you have your Blu-ray played connect to the internet ?

here's a thread to kick start with - http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=179001&highlight=ultraviolet

I fiddled about with the one that came with Monty Pythons Holy Grail and came to the conclusion that Ultra Violet was their solution to region coding workarounds that have happened with the other digital delivery methods .... Whilst I buy discs with digital copies because I use them on my iPad, the Ultra Violet ones don't work the same way and are totally useless outside the region they were bought in. I will now avoid them,

Yeah.

I did actually google it and have been trying to work it out since I started getting the Ultra-Violet digital copies.

So, yesterday, I tried unblock-us - didn't work.

I signed up for 1 month for a VPN and set my location to the USA. After I did this, I could create a Sony account and create an Ultra-blue account - only had to enter a fake US zip code. (90210 anyone?)

Then I was able to redeem a code I had received on a Blu-ray.

However - this is absolutely USELESS.

I can download an inferior copy of a movie (around 1gb) and then ONLY play it on my PC - If I want to watch a movie at home, I will watch the disc on my Oppo thanks anyway.

It's 'compatible' with iPad meanint I can stream the movie to my iPad from the 'cloud' provided I am connected to the US VPN which I can't do. There is no way I can load a conventional movie into iTunes like I have done with digital copies in the past.

They are really screwing us with this.

Additionally I have heard that the studios want to use this type of delivery system into the future instead of supplying any discs.

Upon further investigation, some of my Bluray's ship with a digital copy AND a ultrablue crappy thingy.

Like Hugo and also Tin Tin.

Using the USA VPN has enabled me to d/l my digital copy for those into iTunes. Good thing I have plenty of D/L available this month. Anyway at least I can get these onto my iPad now.
