David Williams Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I purchased a couple of Sony Blu-Ray switchable players off ebay from Multi-System. The other night I was playing around with a BDP-SX1000 that I take with me when I travel. I checked the firmware version as I do occasionally to make sure I download the update - as it's a US player, I can't do internet updates. Anyway, I saw the version of firmware was VERY old - I knew I had updated it a couple of times since I had gotten it. So I thought I'd change the region and do the same check. Yep - on region B setting it was showing the correct firmware (latest). Switched back to region A and it was the old version again. When I got home yesterday I updated the firmware on Region A and now I am getting the right firmware version for region A or B. So I guess this is how this particular firmware mod works - it actually has 2 firmware chips in it and you switch between them - I suppose this is how they can guarantee that you can always update the firmware without breaking the mod. So if you have a region switchable Sony player - it might pay to check that the firmware update has been applied to both firmware chips.
