I managed to download a digital copy via Ultraviolet a couple of weeks ago using an IP Change app that gave me an Amercian IP address, but I tried the same thing today and it seems the UltraViolet bunch have now worked out how to detect this.

Anyone else found a way to actually get what you paid for when you bought a BD from Amazon US?

Slightly off topic but can you set up US iTunes account without a credit card, like you can in Aust and UK? I tried without success.

Thanks in advance

Yes you can. Just buy any free app and don't specify a payment method - that's how I did it years ago.

... and then these film studios wonder why we turn to "other free sources" to download movies

Seems like a lot of effort for something you've paid for

Yes - I have a US Itunes Account etc, and I did successfully download a film a couple of weeks back, but something has changed - the ultravoilet webpage wont let me validate the code, so I don't even get as far as itunes.

Now this doesn't happen with vanilla digital copies, it's only the UltraViolet one that seem to have changed something in the last couple of weeks.

I'm not even sure it;s a MAC address issue as I have also tried via Telstra 3G using a proxy (the one Blade suggested) and it still didn;t work.

Probably DNS

OK. I just received my copy of 'The Hunger Games' complete with Ultraviolet digital download.

Loaded Witopia (VPN) set the gateway to Los Angeles and set it to use ipsec. Connected.

Went to thehungergamesmovie.com/redeem, selected iTunes, Logged into itunes US store with my US account, entered code, movie is now downloading. Hmm - I wonder if it's not using ultraviolet because I selected iTunes?

WOW - I get the 'not available in your region' message for this one too.

Agree, never believed they would be able to determine you are in oz if u use US DNS and a US based proxy server.

Perhaps it's being inferred from time zone and/or language settings on your machine. Seem to recall these are disclosed by all browsers.

it's quite weird and yes will only encourage piracy as far as I can see into the future.

FWIW, I don't consider this piracy. I own the bluray and a digital copy - if they prevent me using the digital copy then if I rip it it's not piracy.

I also got Wrath of the Titans, so might try that to see if it;s any different.

I didn't have any issue with the Hunger Games - apart from the 8gb download anyway but that's another story.

I ran into the same issue when I attempted to use Tunlr with my batman begins/TDK UV code. I'll try a few more proxies/update PC settings to UK tonight, see if it works... if not, well I may or may not have a copy of TDK floating around as an .avi anyway :ninja:

8GB download wtf? how is that a "take anywhere" copy lol... I imagine the quality is rather good...

2 x 4gb files - one was special itunes features which doesn't work :(

Anyway, AnyDVDHD takes care of encryption and handbrake lets me rip anything to my iPad etc. They are just such morons trying to stop people making use of their legitimate purchases. I really don't understand this BS.

Oh well if they insist on encouraging the circumvention of their DRM systems by doing this sort of stuff, they desrve every little bit they cop in lost revenue to piracy.

+100

How they can even think this is remotely effective beats me.
