Mine's really just a monitor for a very ordinary HTPC. And even that arrangement beats the pants off any <cough> smart TV <cough>.

You really need to go back to your doctor.......

The guys wants to watch FTA so the TVs tuner obviously covers that.

He also wants to watch youtube and iView so the smart capabilities cover that .

He also has a budget.

Horses for courses.

Thankyou and goodnight.

If a "smart" TV has ALL the "smart" functions the user requires, now and in the future, it would make sense. If only one vital function is missing or dysfunctional a separate device will be required making the "smart" functions of the TV obsolete.

Off topic, and maybe an unanswerable question, but the question now is do I wait till after xmas sales or buy this online. I have never bought at post xmas sales. So I don't know. I believe this price is discounted at videopro so I don't expect much else off.
Big Brown Box has them for $898 so yes I think you have found a pretty good price. In years gone by, a new TV model was released each year and PQ improvements were significant and prices kept dropping and last years model discounted very quickly. That stopped a few years back as the PQ plateaued and the prices pretty much stabilised. In fact there's been upward pressure on prices of some manufacturers as it turns out they were selling at very thin margins. Anyway, I wouldn't expect you'd get a much better deal than $900 for a brand name 50" TV. You might as well get it now IMO and enjoy it over the summer holidays.

PS I don't think you need any, but in case you do decide to get some HDMI cables, don't bother buying any expensive ones the salesman trys to tell you will get them most out of your new TV. A $20 HDMI cable will provide the exact same PQ as a $300 one.

Thanks Peter.

Edit: Just got the GoodGuys to price match the online quote for $897 without any proof for the UT50. Its on sale atm for $1099. I reserved it, will sleep on it, as there are only 3 left at that store.

So will a $6 HDMI cable from Kmart, yes... 6 bucks.

Digital cables work or that dont, there is no work better.

For long runs cable quality does matter as sometimes the cheap ones dont work, however these days there are wireless options can cover up to 30 meters (line of sight) for less than the price of a cable.

Good to know. I always turn to eBay for things like this but always forget about the ol Kmart

But not $6. :)

Where would you use more than 2 HDMI ports with a built in tuner?
