alanfw Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I was looking for a TAP to allow me to select and delete multiple files on my new TRF7160. I found Filer v2.31 and copied the Filer.TAP file to the TAP folder on the PVR (as per instructions from the Toppy User Guide) but when I try to run it (from the TAP folder) it says there is an error and won't run. Are there any special steps that I need to follow? (The TAP author hasn't got anything in English. The files created from the downloaded ZIP include a folder called Install with a Settings folder, but I can't seem to get this folder to the PVR.) This is my first exposure to TAPs so consider me a complete dummy! Cheers. Alan

If you can connect via a network to the Toppy you need a program like FileZilla to give you access to the unit. The folder in question contains a .dat file which is called firmware.dat, Filer also needs a folder called channellogos. I have a copy of mine here so if you need to drop me a PM. Cheers Referee
alanfw Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Thanks. I DID get the channellogos folder. I don't have my Topfield networked and don't have an ethernet port near it ATM (although I COULD disconnect everything and move the PVR nearer my router). I really don't have any ongoing desire to network the PVR. Is there a way of getting these onto the Toppy from the USB drive? Perhaps another TAP? (It seems the firmware will ONLY transfer *.TAP files to the TAP folder.) I've just found on UK site a guide for "Altair" to transfer files to 5800 via USB computer connection. Will this work on the trf7160? (I don't believe I have the necessary USB cable to do this connection though - they are all USB to USB mini or USB to USB slave which the 7160 doesn't have) Cheers Alan
100945 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Try TMS Archive, http://www.tapworld.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1050:tmsarchive-v10a&catid=3:all-taps&Itemid=57 There's also a link there on how to install the firmware.dat file on a non-networked unit.
vicchat Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Alan I am a newbie to installing TAPS so I hope you can help me... My TRF7160 is networked and I have downloaded the Filer v2.31 zip file to my PC. I am ready to copy it to my Topfield but I can’t find a “Program files” folder on the device, only an “Autostart” folder. In the unzipped Filer file there are some license files and two folders: “for_programmers_only” and "Install”. The install folder contains filer.tap and two folders: “Settings” and “ChannelLogos“ Not sure what to do next? Thanks Vic 'folder which contains filer.tap and 2 x folders: and copied them to the Autostart folder on my 7160 (cant find a Program files folder)

dRdoS7 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 HI, I think you may have a version for older Toppies. TMS version here: http://www.topfield-europe.com/de/09_taps/index_en.php?cat=rec&sort=#liste "AutoStart" is a sub directory of "ProgramFIles". Put the tap in the later first to try it, then move to the former (after stopping it) when you're happy. An alternate FM is SmartFiler_TMS (only beta ATM) I've been using it for 4 months without problems. Here: http://www.topfield-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43244 dRdoS7
vicchat Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Thanks but I would rather stick with Filer for now. As I said above- I am newbie. Using FTP I copied the entire Install folder to the program file folder and restarted the Topfield but nothing’s changed. Then I copied the filer.tap and the two folders “Settings” and “ChannelLogos" out of the install folder and copied them directly into the program files folder, but still nothing. You said I must “put the TAP in the autostart or program file folder. Do you mean just the filer.tap file? Where do I place the other files/folders?
dRdoS7 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Hi, Copy filer_TMS.tap into the ProgramFiles directory. Press the "list" key to open the toppy file manager, press the >> or << key to switch to ProgramFiles. Select filer_TMS from the list and press OK. Filer should start, press the List key, filer should appear. filer_TMS.tap is the only thing you need, delete the other stuff you have copied across. If you're happy with filer_TMS.tap, stop or exit it and move it to AutoStart. Either restart the Toppy or use the above steps to manually start it, going to ProgramFiles then AutoStart. Hope it helps. dRdoS7 Edited December 1, 2013 by dRdoS7
vicchat Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Hi dRdoS7 Thanks for your help. The filer TMS TAP loads but it doesn't work properly. One of the columns has a whole lot of red warning triangles and I can't copy or move any files. I will now try your suggestion of Smart filer. I have downloaded it, but once again there are a whole bunch of files including SmartFiler_TMS.tap; SmartFiler_TMS_trace.tap; FirmwareTMS.dat; SmartFiler_TMS.Ing. Should I copy all of them into the program files folder or just SmartFiler_TMS.tap? Vic
dRdoS7 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Hi, You can copy all 4 into ProgramFiles, test it, then move SmartFiler_TMS.tap into AutoStart (stop or exit it first). I think you'll find SF (IMO) better than Filer, it shows more files for a start. dRdoS7. Edited December 1, 2013 by dRdoS7
vicchat Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Hi dRdoS7 I copied all 4 files into ProgramFiles, started the TAP (I can see that it is loading), but after that it doesn't work- when I press the program list button it brings up the standard list.(I am using v1.02) Any ideas? Vic
dRdoS7 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) HI, Should be v1.36. http://www.topfield....d/filer_TMS.zip dRdoS7 Sorry, I just realised you're talking about SmartFiler! v1.02 is the latest. The firmware.dat should be OK but maybe download the latest? http://www.topfield....FirmwareTMS.dat You could install TMSCommander to check it is still running after you started it. Check in ProgramFiles with the original FM and see if the tap is green, that means it is running OK. Apart from that I have no other suggestions. Edited December 3, 2013 by dRdoS7

Now create a subdirectory SmartFiler_TMS in the ProgramFiles/Settings folder. If no settings folder then create one SmartFiler_TMS.lng should go in the ProgramFiles/Settings/SmartFiler_TMS folder. Restart the Toppy You should then be away. You can also use Channel Logos in your display onscreen as well. That is another story. Get this working first. Cheers Mike
dRdoS7 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Hi, I didn't need to do any of this when I put SF on either of my Toppies. sf.lng & sf_trace.tap are still in ProgramFiles. I did put SF tap into AutoStart after testing. In any case SF should run OK from ProgramFiles directory. Although maybe different on a 7160? Possibly it can't create the settings folder? dRdoS7 Edited December 3, 2013 by dRdoS7
vicchat Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi I tried Mike's settings to the letter- no joy (the settings folder was created by the program so it is partially working) Then I tried dRdoS7's option above - nada Do we know for sure that SmartFiler actually works with a 7160? I've got the most recent firmware which is Sept 2012 Vic
Referee Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi Do we know for sure that SmartFiler actually works with a 7160? I've got the most recent firmware which is Sept 2012 Vic Hi Vic, I have it on two 7160's. Works a treat. Cheers
Referee Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Just checked. My version is SF1.01. My firmware Oct 2011
vicchat Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Thanks to all for the help I downloaded and installed the Oct 2100 firmware and the TAP works now Still can't select multiple recordings to move them to a folder though.... Vic
Referee Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Vic That is the case that you can't delete multiple files using SmartFiler (SF). I think that Filer will though, it is so long since I used that one though. I delete my multiple files using Filezilla via the PC. There is a TAP Askdelete which allows you to choose whether to delete a file after watching or to retain as desired. Cheers Mike
dRdoS7 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) Hi, I think that Filer will though Filer should actually work for vicchat now! dRdoS7 Edited December 4, 2013 by dRdoS7
vicchat Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi I reinstalled Filer but it also doesn’t allow multiple files to be selected and neither programs recognise my external (unpowered) USB drive, so I can't copy recordings to it. Smart filer had better features, so for now that’s the one I’m going to use. Can I install AskDelete at the same time? I assume if there is more than one TAP in the AutoStart folder all of them will load? Thanks Vic
Paul55 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Can I install AskDelete at the same time? I assume if there is more than one TAP in the AutoStart folder all of them will load? Yes. Most of us run multiple TAPs - I have about 10 in AutoStart and a couple of 'occasionals' in Programs. I don't know of anything specific, but it is possible that some TAPs will conflict with other TAPs.
