Guest peterh1 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 HI I am new to the forum so please bear with me. I am looking at getting a Panasonic PVR HW 220GLK model. I curently have foxtel installed and that takes up the only DMI slot on the TV. My question is if I conect the PVR with the usual 3 colour AV cables will I be able to record free to air on the PVR whilst watching Foxtel ? I have had two different answers from the retailers Thanks in anticipation. Peter
Paul55 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) Yes. You will, of course, require an aerial into the PVR. The connection to the TV makes no difference to how the PVR functions. However, the picture quality will be significantly poorer without HDMI. You may be better off with a HDMI switcher (NOT splitter) to share the TV's HDMI port. http://www.ezyhd-cab...i-switcher.html I have one of the 5 input units. Alternatively, if your Foxtel isn't HD, you could use the AV input for Foxtel and the HDMI for the PVR. Edit: P.S. Shop around for good HDMI cable prices. Edited December 30, 2013 by Paul55
deangelj Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 If you're talking about Red/Blue/Green AV cables (aka Component) then the quality difference to HDMI for FTA TV won't be that much if anything. But you will need separate audio cables. If you're talking about the yellow/red/white AV cables (aka Composite) then yes I agree, you will get a much poorer picture.
Guest peterh1 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thank you for the replies, I have a much clearer picture of the problem now.
