This has probably been mentioned before but Planet Earth II is the so far the best example I have come across of what 4K UHD is truly capable  of.    I think some other studios could  learn something

If this Tweet is correct the Daniel Craig, Bond movies will be coming to 4K in October.   Will be day one purchase for me.

i was in the Good Guys yesterday and asked about 4K players. They have the Samsung sitting on the shelf. I said about a demo and was told there not set up for one. Lots of uhd tv's on show all showing the same 4K material. But they can't plug one into a uhd player. The guy couldn't even tell me when they would. And they're the 'good guys'...

Well look at my thread on why shop do not have there display TV's for FTA Viewing. Its all a scam. They say its Copyright but I say they don't want to show people because some 4K movies only look about 5% better than 1080p stuff.

If Australian then I suggest now might be a good time for us to start a new sticky thread in this forum with just the future / upcoming 4K UHD movies for Australia in it. Separate from the general discussion of 4K UHD features and problems.

Any one else in agreement ?

On a separate note Iron man 1, 2 & 3 UHD are being released in Europe in April.

They are the release dates for the Australian versions, the info came directly from the local distributor.

I got the Xbox One-S recently so i'm slowly getting into 4K. From what i can see there are better deals and titles in the states, so i wouldn't mind importing a few, but, is it 100% true and confirmed that all 4K discs are region free worldwide? Does anyone know and can verify? I really want to try The Arrival 4K but it says Region Locked, so i don't know if it's referring to the blu-ray disc as region locked or the 4K disc or both? Thx...

4K titles are NOT region coded. The Bluray that comes with them may be

I am not sure I would bother with the Xbox for 4K

I have one and like you started purchasing, but find the Blu-ray up scaled looks as good as 4K from the Xbox, but it might just be me.

Hoping they straighten out the Oppo soon, as don't want yet another interim solution...

Great to know, and thanks for confirming guys, i can now import Passengers 4K without worrying, it's a nice release they got in the states with the 4K disc and also including 3D disc.

I remember there was a site, michaeldvd, comparing dvd's between different regions and rating them etc...is there a similar site for 4K movies that does mini-reviews and comparisons between a blu-ray title and 4k title? i wanted to read if there is a big improvement between certain titles and if they are worth the upgrade to 4k, or going from 3d to 4k, etc...

the best way is to look at I've found imdb -> tech specs. eg how movie shot, what digital intermediate it used (which also doesnt often tell the full story) I've found things with only a 2k DI still are a well worth getting in uhd over the blu-ray. some less so. so more to this. and well expect so as uhd iusnt just about the 4k aspect theres also WCG and HDR.

 

however none of this will tell you anything re between regions. I've not found anything that does.

 For this I think blu-ray.com is pretty good. They specifically talk the uhd vs the blu-ray for all reviews

Seems Pioneer will release soon a UHD BD player/burner drive for PC's... handy for those who are into HTPC setups;
