I purchased the Digitech AR-1871 wireless HDMI sender and a powered HDMI splitter for the purpose of watching and controlling a Foxtel IQ2 STB from another room. I had read some information that people had had some success using this combination, hence the purchase... I haven't.

Have Foxtel changed the IR frequency used on an IQ2 recently? What frequency do IQ2's use for IR?

IR functions simply don't work at all... I can't even see the sender registering an IR command.

PQ is horrendous... worse than the worst SD channel. However the TV is receiving a 1080p50 signal... Foxtel is sending a 1080i50 signal. Even when I change the output resolution on the IQ2 to 576p/720p/1080i/passthrough/auto, the TV connected to the receiver still says 1080p50.

It seems this sender is converting everything to 1080p50 instead of the resolution selected by the source.

I have tried removing the splitter with exactly the same result... so it seems the splitter is fine, but not the HDMI sender/receiver.

Should I try one of these?

Could someone please recommend a wireless HDMI sender with IR that actually works properly with an IQ2 STB?

Cheers,

I have an iq2 and solved the issue by using a harmony ultimate remote system. This lets you control the unit over wi-fi. (I am using an Aten sender unit which omits the need for a splitter)

Thanks for your reply figjam. :)

One of these? Yes, seems to have a pass-through function;

The issue I had was with the HDMI sender, not the splitter though.

They also sell these too which seem ok for just one source rather than two... might grab one of those.

Anyone used this before?

I have an iq2 ... Aten sender unit

Figjam, even though you're not using the IR function, does it work with an IQ2? From what I read the IQ2 now uses 58kHz for the IR rather than 36kHz... This is why I am now looking at units that have a larger range of 30 - 60kHz for the IR and that Aten one is not specific about that, even though it does say IQ2 compatible.

Unfortunately I am not using the Aten unit with the iq2 anymore, as the wife wanted it connected up to the Telstra t-box. I can give a quick test for you though if you like?

Currently laid up in a hospital bed and not sure when I will get home though sorry. :(

Apparently you can use the foxtel guide smartphone app to change channels on an iq2 box?

Yeah you are able to do that... the bloke it's for can hardly use a smartphone though. ;)

Sorry to hear your in hospital mate. If you get a chance, sure, test it... but don't go out of your way.

Thanks mate, but no need now. I purchased the Digitech AR-1915 (seems physically the same as the QQ Air HD) and it works 100%. PQ is perfect and remote IR changes are instant... in fact it seems quicker than in the room with the IQ2.

This unit has a HDMI pass-through, so no need for a splitter either.

If anyone is looking for a solution for splitting an IQ2 output to another room, this is the one. Just don't pay $400 from Jaycar... should be able to find it for $250. ;)

great stuff. let us know how it goes long term, as the Aten unit has been a little troublesome (need to reboot both transmitter and receiver about once a month).

Yes, I have found the Aten requires rebooting, as well as having some handshake issues. It will only connect about 50% of the time if my main TV is turned off. 100% if I leave it on, but then I have to walk into the bedroom and turn that TV on before turning the main TV off. Picture is excellent though. I also use Harmony remote to control.

Hi JSmith

Is the Digitech AR-1915 still working well?

I am about to purchase to send Foxtel IQ2 to bedroom in a small unit. Max 7m distance. Does the IR work with IQ2

Thanks

Hey Frocca,

AFAIK it is still working fine... 7m including a wall may be a bit of an ask though. Or is it line of sight?

Yes it was an IQ2. The IQ3 uses a bluetooth remote now I think, so IR senders are useless.

I am using a Broadlink mini RM3 to control my IQ2. Great simple option if you have a smartphone (who doesn't?)
