He's comparing the AVM70 vs MRX 1140 ; and he's mentioned that they have the same DAC. I no longer have any analog audio source. And even if using a CD player, I would do so via the bluray player and feed digital to the 1140/70 and let it do the DAC No mate ; Ime making the point that he is talking about the dacs only ; a better answer to your question of differences would state the adc's used as well as the negative of no analogue passthrough ; which the last generation had iirc Thats a difference for those who dont want any bass management or ARC eq or just want to compare the 2 ways before choosing . I would use the digital route myself so it wouldnt factor for me either This notice on the AKM site for the 90's 4499eq dac redevelopment plan looks ominous after the fire AK4499EQ | Audio D/A Converters | PRODUCTS | Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) Edited June 24, 2021 by cwt 1
SilverWolf Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Well I was worried about nothing, 3 hours thrashing and the MRX-740 didn't get over 21 degrees and stayed cool to the touch. Oh and it sounded pretty good also as a side benefit lol, so there's that. Not used ARC as yet and time will will reveal any or delights or woes. Sorted out that problem and off the 740 went straight into forced updates...grrrr, I started to sweat but seemed to do it's update/s and then go back to working and playing the music from the APTV4K. Didn't get stuck or have any weird issues and I was ready with a BUG bomb All's well that ends well (at least for now rofl) 2
Adam5022 Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Hello, I'm currently running 7.3.4 on my mrx1140. I have the front three channels using an external amp I am trying to set-up my front L/R speaker terminals to front wide speakers using the amp matrixing feature. I have done a calibration with my mic, after adding the speakers, they come up great. They also work when I set speaker levels with the test tone. But when I play a dolby atmos movie, I get nothing from them at all. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, or if what im doing is possible? Any help will be great. Thanks

Thanks This is a consequence of how dolby atmos encodes individual sound objects Adam ; the sound engineer steers the objects to where he wants them to go ; or decides your FW gets nothing . We all have to be cognisant of good atmos movies where extra effort is put in and lesser ones which can come from particular studios and may even be restricted to static objects limited to 7.1.4 which are not scalable to as many as 128 simultaneous objects [ which is what is possible] Quote Atmos is not encoded for any particular configuration of speakers. That's the point of an object-based audio format like Atmos —each audio "object" (bird, plane, Superman, etc.) is encoded with metadata that specifies its location in a 3D soundfield over time. Once you inform the Atmos decoder in your AV receiver or pre/pro about your speaker layout, it plays each sound using the closest available speaker(s) as needed to make the sound appear to come from the correct location.
Adam5022 Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 That's true, but I was testing out with ready player one and a quiet place. 2 of the best atmos tracks around. I was under the impression that with atmos, the receiver decodes the atmos track and spread the sound around as required, to what ever set-up you have? Separating itself from the old 5.1, 7.1 styles

Separating itself from the old 5.1, 7.1 styles Its complicated ; the difference being 5.1 and 7.1 being decoded by older channel based algorithms to ddtruehd or dts hdma The new object surround decoders [atmos;dts-x; auro3d] use objects instead to steer specific sounds exactly where they want them to go .. This includes no signal ; large or small object or whatever speaker they deem necessary.. If you want to know where these objects are emanating from you need a $$ trinnov altitude at present ; it can tell you where the objects- and how many are used- are going for a soundtrack Its not just disney and marvell movies that are limited to 4 overheads ; dts-x is also limited to 11 channels due to dsp processing power ; until we get dts-x pro which can do more .. This read should help pick the good ones like ready player 1 Disney likes to limit things so they can use less bandwidth when streaming with disney plus so saving money with 1 size suits all https://www.avsforum.com/threads/dolby-atmos-object-based-content-in-4k-uhd-movies.3172788/post-60240664 Edited July 29, 2021 by cwt
Adam5022 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Hmm, I've got 2 cheapy bookshelves that I can use for the x2 wides. Maybe I'll just stick with them (if at all) if they aren't going to get much use. I thought ide at least get some ambient background noise or something through them. But oh well. Someday, when I can afford a trinnov haha

xPLAYRZx Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Firmware update now available for AVM/MRX devices. Super vague release notes as usual. Firmware Change Log Release: 00.58 Network Module Version: 1.102.125 Updated Google Cast Fixed minor issues with DTS:X Minor bug fixes and improvements
xPLAYRZx Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Quote We've changed the update process in our latest firmware update based on the feedback received. The Network Module will update automatically in the background while the unit is off, this typically happens overnight. The MRX/AVM's actual firmware, indicated by REL VER in the system menu and MCU VER in the Web UI, will not update automatically unless "Automatic Updates" is turned on under Preferences. When "Automatic Updates" is turned on, the REL VER/MCU VER will update automatically along with the Network Module overnight. We've also changed how the firmware is verified. If you select "Check for Updates" the receiver will check each individual component (OSD, LCD, DSP) to make sure they are on the latest version possible. If an update is not found it will simply cycle through all components and then return to the main screen. If an update is found it will update the component to the latest version and the status bar will indicate its progress. 1
xPLAYRZx Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 https://www.anthemav.com/downloads/MRX_AVM_firmware_00.61_change_log.txt Release: 00.61 Network Module Version: 1.103.133 Changed update procedure. Now Network Module firmware will update in the background and the host firmware will only update after you "Check for Updates" or if you have automatic updates turned on. "Check for Updates" will now cycle through all firmware versions to make sure units are up-to-date. Addressed a popping issue some people were experiencing with cable boxes Addressed a fan issue that caused some fans to turn on immediately If "HDMI Audio To TV" is On and "CEC Control" is On, Fixed an issue with no sound coming out of the speaker. Fixed a bug that did not apply immediately when changing the Speaker Profile Other minor bug fixes and improvements
jya Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 One issue I've noticed with the MRX1140 is that when using it with eARC ; it will automatically turn off after a while. Had to disable the "no signal power off" option. It seems that this option should be named "No Video Signal Power Off" instead, because it doesn't seem to care that there's an audio signal going on.
jya Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Is there any way to disable the Wifi hotspot created by the mrx1140? It unnecessarily hog a wifi channel ; I have it connected to ethernet, I don't need wifi to be on. Thanks
Erbacher Posted November 2, 2021 Posted November 2, 2021 Can I ask a MRX 540 question - I am seeing conflicting things online around the channel re-assignment. Am I right in saying if I pre-out my fronts to a stereo amp (with HT bypass) I can then use those unused front amps of the Anthem as heights and have a 5.1.2 system. I am sure that is the point of it but I saw a couple of articles that seemed to say you could only bi-wire and you needed to use the height pre-outs with an external amp to get these. I am sure you can, if somebody can just confirm it would be appreciated. Then I have to figure out if it isn't a safer bet to just go the Denon X3700h, I have a MRX700 now but want to play around with dolby atmos. Cheers,
roachy Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I believe this only works with the 740 and 1140 as per the user manual 1

JimK Posted November 5, 2021 Posted November 5, 2021 Hi, does anyone have any good tips on increasing and improving the mid range after ARC applied. Also when I increase subwoofer level, for some reason doesn't kick in. Anyone have a similar experience. Cheers.
PhilY Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Grateful advice on setting up an avm 60. I purchased a NOS unit (connected to a mca 525 and Paradigm Signatures) and am trying to connect to my smart TV (LG). Thought it would be simple ……. The TV recognises the hdmi connection but thats it; it doesn’t pick up the device. I’ve spent hours (literally) researching but am unable to determine what the problem is. Grateful advice on what ports to use, configuration settings etc. Cheers Phil
PhilY Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 I should clarify that the HDMI cable is definitely connected between the units. The TV recognises the connection (looses if I remove it from the avm), but is unable to send/receive a signal.

What HDMI cable are you using?

What HDMI cable are you using? Brand new high speed HDMI cables (also swapped them for older cables to see if they were a problem). LG OLED (brand new). I’ve tried both 1 and 2 out ports (to see if I can get any sound from the TV). NB I am getting sound from other inputs so the system itself is working.
PhilY Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Also tried several in ports - don’t know what the settings should be though.
PhilY Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Sorry, just saw the question on which TV port. I can’t answer that at the moment - its a big TV - takes x3 to get it off the wall! I think its the eARC/ARC. Which should it be?
