For some reason when Hdmi is set on auto ( Marantz Av8805 ) it never worked, blank screen. I was told this was an issue awhile back. The Anthem has a similar setup as Marantz Auto and that’s why it won’t pass the hdr2020 only JVC. I’ve put it down to getting old. Edited February 6, 2022 by franin 1

Mobe1969 Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Just wondering - my 1120 has packed it in and I was looking at either an 1140 or going to a denon. A couple of questions on the 1140 I was wondering though that someone here might help with... - Are the remote codes for most functionality the same as the 1120? So with a harmony elite I can just plug it in and not have to worry about reprogramming all the activities. - Networking. I think I might have had faulty network "card / board" in it, but I was rarely able to get it to connect to the network, wired or wireless. I'd always see the stupid playfi network device on the routers (yes I've had 3 separate routers over the life of my 1120) but rarely the wireless or wired. I just gave up in the end. Is the 1140 better? That playfi I found was just an abomination, and looking at the 1140 manual that is gone now so that to me is good news... - Front display. Does it give actual useful information on the audio signal? The 1120 is to put it bluntly poor, so watching anything other than lossy atmos on an AppleTV just shows as MULTIPCM. Can't even see how many channels (and yes as I can't get it on the network I can't use the mobile app - that said having to use a bloody application for that is irritating) Thanks

I am glad Anthem got rid of PlayFi with the 40 series; it was probably the most useless thing I have used in HT. Do not have hands on experience with the 1140, but SNAs review is particularly helpful in highlighting why it was better https://www.stereonet.com/au/reviews/anthem-mrx-1140-11-channel-av-receiver-review Given that your 1120 has packed in, I am not surprised that you are considering other brands. Instead of Denon, suggest Marantz. Personally, I will only use AVRs with ARC or Dirac Live...

Hey Mate, they are starting to circulate overseas just over here in Aus I think we will be the last ones to get one. The only positive out of all this they can test it out for us and hopefully by the time we get ours it will be all good. 1

I use 2 fans in similar way one blow towards the boards and another one suck out the air outside the unit and Arcam Av40 was stable without hangs by this manner.
gwavz Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Hey All - I just purchased an MRX1140 to compare/possibly replace my Yamaha 3080. Wow I must say Anthem packs a punch. Using my Anthem MCA525 for the LCR and Surrounds, and the 1140 for the Surround Back and 4 Atmos. A couple of configuration issues when wanting to reassign the surround amp to the Height 3 rear atmos. ARC Genesis crashed and doesn't like that. Can't have Height 1 and Height 3 without Height 2 in ARC - Quick measure ok, but ARC no go - I logged an Anthem ticket. I then changed the speaker Rear Atmos connections to the Height 2 amp. The pre-outs on this thing and subwoofer outs are way better than the Yammy. Easy to install and configure. Happy man. Anyone want a Yamaha? I never knew my subs went this low and deep and I am sorry to my neighbours. Excitably yours, Gwavz 3

Mr.Bitey Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 (edited) Better late than never right? ok so im super late to the party just upgraded (lol) to an MCA 50 and AVM50v - pretty happy with how this is working after comming from many years in camp denon with AVRs. Driving it with a HTPC for movies/music with one HDMI going to a 4k TV and another to the AVM50v for audio only. Only gripe so far is the avm seems a bit **** at getting the right decoder on the bitstream when changing from say DTS-MA to TrueHD or after playing some multichanel flacs - doesnt seem to realise all the time (gets it right pretty often but not 100%) that the codec has changed and results in some lovely static noise! Anyway just saying hi, hopefully there's still some people running the old AVM50v's ! Cheers Edited June 15, 2022 by Mr.Bitey
Guest Conifer Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) Finally upgraded my Marantz 7701, 2013 pre-amp and gone to the Anthem 740. Really impressed with this amp. It's close to 10yrs since an upgrade and the Anthem MRX 740 really has some juice. Wow, it's impressive. Running 7.2.2 and maybe thinking of 7.2.4 but not as yet. Will read through other members post--- to see if I have missed anything in regards to tips & tricks. Edited July 17, 2022 by Conifer
Grant Slack Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Hi guys, I have a couple of questions about ARC while I consider buying one. Can one restrict the bandwidth that is auto equalised, and how much flexibility is there in restricting it? Can one make manual EQ adjustments outside of the restricted auto EQ bandwidth in Q1 above? Can one make lots of little manual adjustments to the target curve, and how much control does one have over such adjustments? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Grant

Yes to 1 and 3. But no to 2. If tweaking is your primary requirement, then you are better off using REW and a miniDSP with Dirac Live. Also have look at these advanced settings https://anthemarc.com/arc-genesis/advanced-settings/adjust-arc-settings-adjust-targets.php
Grant Slack Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Oh that is a good idea about demo mode ARC, I didn’t realise that was available. Thanks Grant
ChamilaRodz Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Hello guys, I am considering purchasing an AVR for my HT setup. basically it would be a 5.1 ( may be 5.2 with two subs ). Only planning run virtual height speakers in atmos if required. Speakers are Paradigm premier 700F, 500C , surround 1 I was thinking of MRX540 but the store I bought the speakers are pitching the Denon 4700 model too. Any advice I can get in this regard ?
michaeldarren79 Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Is anyone able to comment on the Anthem Avm70 (or Anthem in general) headphone amp quality? I’m just curious how would compare to a dedicated headphone amp like a Topping A90. Not much about the Anthem headphone out on Google search.

But the Anthem Audio Lovers Facebook group is pretty active. You should try asking your question there or AVSForums since this thread doesn't look very active.

Cheers @ph3ng I’ll ask a few questions there. Been waiting for Anthem to announce the Roon upgrade. Promised but not forthcoming.
TP1 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I've been helping my son build a new theatre at his house and we've decided on an Anthem AV70 as the processor. I notice they now come with HDMI 2.1 . The thing that swung it Anthem's way was discussions with some owners on the net who have had other units too. A couple moved on from the Anthem and their input was also useful. I was focussing on the noise floor because for my tastes, a low noise floor is not negotiable. I read the SINAD measurements on the ASR site and I know that there can be a lot more to it, but Anthem AV70 is right up there with the likes of Trinnov and Datasat. In case anyone has missed it, here is a comparison of SINAD for AV and other digital processors (courtesy of Audio Science Review) of 1

I may pull the trigger on one this year. I just wish they would add Roon fuctionality.
