Trinnov St2 Pro

I have just installed 2 SVS SB2000 subs in my HT room and this has given me a very clear audible improvement in the sound.  I use this room for dual HT and 2-channel music duties.  My NuForce P9 preamp has HT bypass so that the left and right channel Paradigm S6 speakers are fed by both my Onkyo PR-SC5509 prepro and my NuForce P9 preamp.  All my music is now stored on my NAS drive and my Cyrus Streamline2 plays my digital music through the NuForce P9 preamp and I am very happy with this.

Now I have been reading and watching YouTube videos about the Trinnov ST2 Pro and what it can do for sound in terms of room correction (amplitude, phase and time delay).  I already have bass traps in the 4 corners of my 6.0 m by 4.5 m by 2.8 m room (using Vicoustic SBE's), and having had a so-called accoustic expert visit my place and indicate that he wouldn't do much more in the room in terms of accoustic treatment, I am now thinking of going to the next level and improve my sound using some digital signal processor such as the Trinnov ST2 Pro.  I am content with my 7 channel HT sound via my Onkyo PR-SC 5509 prepro (Audyssey doing its room correction as best it can).

I can't find much information about the Trinnov ST2 Pro in terms of an Australian presence ... I have many questions about how you would set this up, to calibrate, what software to use, how to run the software etc. etc.  It is quite ironic that of the many YouTube videos, they do not show you some of the parts that I think are the crucial bits e.g. how to connect the various bits and pieces, how long are the connecting cables to the 3D microphone (I would need at least 5 metres to comfortably get to my favourite seating position) how to configure the unit with your PC etc.

Does anyone here on this forum know about this unit OR know who I should consult about this?

Keep trying Mr C  ; David is very busy as he is the distributor for many brands ; he helped me when  I had a cary 11a a few times [ and even gave cary feedback on problematic firmware ] . He isn't a dealer but does have a lot of experience setting up state of the art cinema's and has showrooms at Taren Point NSW

That's unfortunate HTPC ; a couple of us got a good price on a groupbuy of pre pro's he set up and he looked after us when the manufacturers moved the goalposts

I agree with CWT - David looked after both of us with the Cary group buy - and I was not spending a lot of money. As the group buy was Melbourne based, David even personally delivered my pre-pro to Wollongong and helped install and set it up.  I have ended up spending money with David but that evolved over time and was fostered by his passion for the industry. David has always been responsive to my calls.

My suggestion is, spending money on an EQ box to improve sound quality would be better spent on better speakers.

ok .... each to their own. 

Given I have the Paradigm S6 speakers already, and given that money has been spent already on setting up my room, I disagree with your assertion.

Money spent on setting up a room is a good investment...better speakers will almost always achieve a better end result than better anything else.

The question is which will have more impact in terms of improvement ... spending $5-6K on equalisation/phase/time delay improvements OR $5-6K on better speakers?  I have already satisfied myself that spending another $5-6K on speakers is NOT going to achieve a significant improvement given the speakers I already have.  For me it is matter of optimizing what I currently have.

I'd sit on that $6k for now, and when you have another $6k to spare, put it all into a speaker upgrade.

eq will always be a band aid

Re the onkyo id hold back on processors. Hdmi is very much in flux right now. Anything but now could be superseded very quickly

Are you aware that frequency equalisation is a small part of the Trinnov ?

Yep, I'd agree with that. Or a Barefoot MicroMain26 or similar from their product range (occasionally you see them on eBay).

Or if actives aren't an option, a used pair of Magico S1.

I wouldn't be pairing a Trinnov with Paradigm S6. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to spend $5k on a box to EQ a $10k pair of speakers. You could easily land a used pair of Magico S1 here for $10k. I have heard both Paradigm S8 and Magico S1, the Magico wins hands-down. No contest at all.

I am aware of what it does, like others am just making the point it seems a bit skew iff in the equation. there is a lot of "****" the unit does for mastering studios and for music engineers etc. you going to use all that. for domestic use it basically does what other room and eq system do. and you can get these at all sorts of price points. from quite minimal to stratospheric.

Suggest looking at the MiniDSP with Dirac Live cheaper than Trinnov, and versatile.

Thank you for the information about other products.  From my reading that I am doing these other products don't all do what the Trinnov does.
