Amazon has just announced an all-new Fire TV amongst a series of rapid-fire product debuts happening right now in Seattle.

Here’s what we know so far:

 

• It supports 4K and HDR, handling resolution of up to 2160p at 60fps
• Dolby Atmos support
• 802.11ac Wi-Fi
• 1.5 Ghz quad-core CPU
• It’ll come with an Alexa-powered remote for voice control, but can also be controlled by Echos around your room

It’ll sell for $70 on its own when it ships later this year, or you can buy it for $80 in a bundle with an Echo Dot.

I just use the apple tv... sorry ..so cant comment re the fire stick...

I’ve got a mate who can jailbreak them so access all areas. Just wondering if they are worth getting? 
If the cube is a better option.

Actually it was the Roku alternative in my case, its till plugged into the TV but hasn't been use in a long time, so many other streaming alternatives these days.....

I do use a Fire Stick 4K for travelling. Very handy to plug into any hotel (or AirBnB) TV and have access to all your own content. Can also use a VPN on it (for when overseas in particular). Not sure how the quality would compare to more dedicated devices (Apple TV, Nvidia Shield etc), as I've never used one on anything larger than a standard TV. Can't fault it otherwise. Not sure why the need to jailbreak it though - as it has all the apps you'd need and can run IPTV services too.
