nice rides

bit of an over-lap in intent / capability?? i.e. both trail weapons vs having an XC and a 8in park bike

(i'd find it hard to pass on the Intense)

yes - nice bikes and nice listening gear, not great hobbies for keeping pennies in your pocket

Yes, it is Reynolds 531, slightly heavier than road tubes - the fork legs, for example are round and chunky.  As far as I've been able to tell, Reynolds didn't badge the road/track tube sets differently.

Only been on it for a week, but 3 times to the velodrome so far.  Want to have a go at a bit of club racing come October.  At this stage my legs are empty after an hour, whereas I can get along on the roadie for 4-5 hours plus no problems.  Once you get used to the fact that you cannot coast (try it and you'll be pitched head first over the bars) it's great fun to ride: so direct and lively.

Glad you haven't butchered the single-speed frame, Mr Nutz!

And Jim, for an old fart like me it's amusing to see guys responding to that link oohing and aahing over a steel bike that weighs "only 8.3 Kg".  It's by no means an extraordinary figure: there's nothing spectacularly unusual about a good steel frame & fork weighing in sub-2.5 Kg. But they may not know that.

$4,500 for a steel frame?  That's plenty, although there is a younger generation of fabricators doing this very "high-end bespoke"-type stuff, with prices to match.  The old guys I know just make bike frames, as they have for decades.

Oh, and the Ti "anodising" isn't: that's the response of Ti to the application of heat. And in those examples it's very well done.

Some nice bikes here, this is my daily shared path rocket. Good hill climber even for a 1 x 10.

in a year or so I'll probably be up for getting a more dedicated commuter than scooting into work on my HT mt bike. I like the balance here of speed and handling with the "fat" tires and flat bar. I still want to be bomb stairs, hop a traffic island, etc. rather than having the outright speed a traditional road bike gives.

Love it! I haven't seen many integrated seatposts on MTBs.

I also ride a Scott, my 2016 Spark 900RC still going strong.

I'm devastated. Both of my beautiful bikes posted above were stolen this morning from our garage locker in Kingston ACT.

UPDATE: Luckily we found the Devinci where the thief had left it where he stole someone else's electric bike.

Now just my lovely new Santa Cruz is missing.

If anyone sees this reasonably rare bike around, please let me know. It has distinguishing features that I won't relate here.

A word of warning. Don't think that your home contents insurance will cover your bikes. We'll only be getting about 10% of the value of these bikes back.

Thanks,

Jason.

@koputai That is devastating, hope the police get the low life. With the Santa Cruz being a unique colour it should be hard to sell, without being noticed. Watch the local papers etc.

Why won’t the insurance cover the replacement cost?

Thanks @Whites

On page 40 of the 70 page insurance contract, it says that bikes are only covered for up to $2,000 in total, no matter how many are stolen. Minus the $250 excess. That means $1,750 all up.

Lucky we're on the 'Premium' insurance, otherwise it would have been something like $200 all up!

Cheers,

Jason.

My latest acquisition - a Cervelo R5, with Dura Ace and Fulcrum 40C wheels. It's getting hard to explain to the wife why there are now 4 road bikes in the garage.

Have the old “dog” Jet Niner, love the twenty nine inch wheels when rolling down a fast hillside, rolls over most obstacles so easily. In hindsight I would have purchased a hardtail though.

As I’ve been getting so unfit lately, I purchased a “fitness” / “urban” bike, a Specialized “Sirrus Carbon” which is very nice, seems very lively and fast even with my keg on it...
