I see lots of talk about songs, as played/sung by their creators (or the original players/singers, at least) - and that's great to hear about. Always will be. ;)

But, from time to time, someone comes along and does a pretty damn impressive (cover) version of some song or other. In this thread, I'd love to hear about those. Hopefully I'm not the only one...

Fire away! ;)

Gloria by Van Morrision.. A cover version recorded live by The Doors during a "soundstage sound check" in Claifornia.. Right at the peak of Jim's carreer,, he was steaming hot! The recording is live Without crowd noise,, a magic recording

Not Fade Away - Rolling Stones play Buddy Holly

Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley plays someone I can't remember

The Sonics, Rolling Stones, Lena Lovich and The Beatles play Money by Barrett (not Syd but the name escapes me at present). Wait a minute, was it Barrett Strong?

Plenty more where these came from.

Gilberto Gil has done some excellent cover versions of Bob Marley songs. One Drop, No Woman No Cry, Waiting In Vain, Could You Be Loved, among others. On his Kaya N'Gan Daya CD.

As much as I love the original, Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley is a winner for me.

Something a little more obscure: Eleanor Rigby as played by Dirt Poor Robins is getting a lot of playtime on my headphones at work right now.

Iron Maiden cover of Women in Uniform

Queensryche's Gonna get close to you

Rodrigo e Gabriella cover of Metallica's "Orion"

Neil Young doing "Blowin in the Wind" live (reminds me of all along the watchtower somehow - an electric electrifying version of Dylan)

Zoot did a thrash version of Elanor Rigby in the early 70s?

I remember that one, quite good.

The Bangles did a good version of "Hazy shade of winter"
