Ugly Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I've been slowly working on my study (main listening space) for a year or so now in between the full on worlds of work and family. I've currently got my gear all stacked on the desk in a less than ideal way and have been meaning to sort it out for some time. This is what it currently looks like: Just to the right of the picture you can see a bit of a hidden nook which is currently s a hotspot for bits and pieces...see below: I had a bit of left over bamboo from when I built the desk so i decided build a little desktop rack to fit in the nook. Cut and sanded and awaiting a clear coat. 580mm x 400mm Balancing act prototype to make sure it all fits together. I am using a clear coat of Porters paint on the bamboo and then paint the legs the same dark colour as the walls in the study. I plan on using these table leg fittings I picked up from bunnings but may have to brace further if its not stable enough. I'll post more pictures once finished. Edited January 9, 2018 by Ugly 4
Ugly Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 I'm also toying with the idea of using something like this on each of the legs
mattjtaylor2809 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I like the idea of these spikes on each of the legs, I’m think about doing this with the off cuts from my Hi Fi rack to place under my Ayre amp & Transport &/or Preamp? Are the inserts that you then screw in the spikes easy to install into hardwood?

I have no idea unfortunately as I've never tried them. Hopefully a chippy will chime in soon. You can also buy versions that stick on using double sided tape. see: http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/loudspeaker-components/speaker-cabinet-accessories/speaker-spikes/
Batty Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I used the stick on ones under my TT except I inverted them (cones free to move and 'coin' stuck in place under TT) so that I can easily move the TT without it damaging any surface I put it on. Great for levelling too. Edited January 9, 2018 by Batty
Ugly Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 We'll I'm having fun with the furniture studs. I asked the guy at Bunnings the other day if there was a drill bit or something to install them and he said no. I've since learned that he didn't know what he was talking about. Anyway,. I've improvised using two nuts tightened together. Clunky but it works. 1
Raffinator Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 If others want one, but don’t want to make it, check out my listing for Hifi Racks in the WTB. A bit smaller than this - top board is 330mm wide by 400mm deep.
Raffinator Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 BTW your bamboo looks just like the famous IKEA chopping boards many used for a base (I have one).

Ugly Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 All done! I haven't put it in the corner yet as originally intended because my speaker cables aren't long enough and frankly I like to look at the boxes. 6
jyjy Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 stands look awesome, where did you get the wood from?

I bought the bamboo ply in large sheets i.e. 2400 x 1200 from a mob called Plywood and plastics. I believe that they are no longer trading. If you google 'bamboo ply' you will find a few suppliers around the place.
