tooncam Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Looking for a bit of advice - i'm currently using an Epson EMP-TW2000 on a drop down screen for our main evening viewing - the main reason for using this projector is it's lens shift capabilities which i need as its very limited in where we can put the projector in the room (ie not too worried about full HD/ 3D/contrast ratios/lumens etc). The issue i've got is that the pass through output of the projector has developed a fault, i think from the electrical storms we had in Sydney earlier in the week (no surge protection) and so i'm toying up whether i should (1) get it repaired or (2) buy a new projector. With (1) can anyone recommend a good projector repairer in Sydney - preferably north of the bridge? or with (2) can anyone recommend a budget (ie sub $2k) projector with lens shift capabilities (if there is such a thing) Thanks
betty boop Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 isnt epson themselves in sydney should be able to service ? epsons(have owned 2 myself) have historically had the best lens shift adjustment. most accomodating, so would happily suggest another if cant fix your current one. your power company or home insurance should cover the repair or replacement given power surge related. if not next best in lens shift have found to be jvc, sub $2k should easily buy a decent x35 or newer which will be a few leaps ahead of the epson running now in all regards. 3rd best in lens shift is sony. will have to explore what can get but again be back catalog, lastly theres dlp which his most restrictive in lens shift and accomodating in positioning however there are a few bargain models around in the under $2k mark however might not be accomodating enough in your use. 1
tooncam Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Thanks - called Epson and they referred me to a service agent in Waterloo - going to give repair a crack first. 1
zmacka Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) Imho the Epson EMP-TW2000 are one of the best bung for buck projectors of its time. The blacks still amaze me (yes I have one), I have yet to be convinced that there has been a quantum leap in picture quality (1080p) to tempt me getting an upgrade. I spent some time learning how to calibrate and that made a world of difference. Concur about getting it repaired; maybe insurance? Edited January 13, 2018 by zmacka 1
