martin64 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 The Carbon is an Audio Technica from what I remember. The Elys2 , not sure. I would get in contact with the dealer and advise them that you are going to email Rega and complain about the cartridge. Hopefully then you can get your money back and buy the Ortofon. Yes you are correct. Audio technica tuned a bit. Elys in house rega. I Will even take the whole deck to rega for a test but not back to the dealer. I think they are retarted or perhaps they think i am 2
martin64 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 That is not a bad idea..leave it Rega itself and let them sort it out.Going to email Rega now again

Chigurh Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 For $49 the super-cheap AT95E is worth a listen. Quite a few fans with Regas in this thread. 1
Guest Eggcup The Daft Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 It sounds like the hum is produced by proximity to the motor. I don't know about the new range, but in the old days Nagaoka cartridges were a cure for this issue...

I much prefer it to the Denon DL 301 I was previously using Interesting. I very much want to go up the ladder with my next cartridge and was thinking MC around $500 - $1000 but in the context of my system I'm not sure if its worth it. Would you say it outshines a Goldring 2100? In the end it isn't very expensive so it wouldn't preclude a more adventurous upgrade later.

I havent heard the goldring before but all the info i read lately suggest that goldring is fastantastic. I want to move up to a moving magnet cartridge but first need to sort my TT
Guest Eggcup The Daft Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 If it's motor hum, the most important thing is the shielding around the cartridge. You can't do a lot about the motor. Rega describe the new version of the Planar 2 as having Quote New 24v low noise, low vibration motor assembly and new PCB. http://www.rega.co.uk/planar-2-2016.html If it's not working with the same brand's cartridge without hum I'd say that is a pretty significant failure (I don't see them advertising this as a "back to the '70s sound" anywhere!) I would insist on a refund.
wen Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 any outcome from your dilemma with your rega yet?
martin64 Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 any outcome from your dilemma with your rega yet? Hi Wen i spoke again to Rega and it is currently at their service centre for testing. I will soon know whats going on.
martin64 Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 sound good so far, hope outcome is as well They just confirmed me that the tone arm is out of order. The automatic anti scating system does not work. They are awaiting a replacement from overseas. Rega service department is actually very helpful and friendly. Puts a little more trust in their systems. I was the guy who bought the brand new dud..just my luck.
wen Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 at least you may get looked after, after the event
peterr Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 (edited) http://www.thefactoryaudio.com/blog/ Scroll down to 'Killing The Rega Buzz'. This guy in Canberra has a solution Edited March 6, 2018 by peterr

I was the guy who bought the brand new dud..just my luck. If it helps any, I bought a Planar 3 with Elys2 cart mid last year. Had a faulty cart out of the box - right channel was quieter by about 20% compared to the left. Replacement Elys2 fixed it. That took a week - my fancy new deck rendered unusable for the first week. Supposedly it it gets tested at the factory before getting boxed - not so sure about that.
martin64 Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 Rega replaced my my tonearm as this was causing the issues. Received it last week and tested it fully and now it sounds like a turntable. Brand new out of the box it came with issues. Luckily it was sorted by Jls electronics and their service was excellent. Highly recommended. 2
rodders3 Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Damn, I was hoping Rega's were a bit more stable than that. i just took my Rega Planar 6 back yesterday to see if issue with a clicking sound was a big deal. It was 2 months old. Very good service from CAV who thought it may be the belt. Replaced it there and then. Played today and no, sound still there. Will need to go back and told up to a month with hope can be two weeks. Bitterly disappointed to spend $$$ and have an issue like this. Happens I guess.
martin64 Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 Yea i must say i dont like it. Mine is better but not 100 percent. Change in cartridge for me
rodders3 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I should update my experience. CAV were great and sent *** to Synergy to explore the issue. They could also hear the sound and looked as if a motor change was required. Actually received my Rega within a week. Synergy had cleaned out the motor and re-lubed parts with end result that it is now dead quiet and plays very well. Pretty happy with outcome and quick turnaround. 1
