t_mike Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Cal Tjader - Tjader Some great jazzy lounge with a strong latin influence. Heavy on bossa rhythms and percussion balanced out nicely with Cal on vibes and organ, and Al Zulaica on piano and Fender-Rhodes. 2
t_mike Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 This is very Herb Alpert-ish. This sort of music was regularly played in our household when I was not much more than a toddler, so the memories flow. 2
t_mike Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Gotta love the Latin rhythms on this, mainly Cuban and Brazilian. Son, bossa, rumba, Cumbria, it's all there. 3

YCC Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 This opshop find has excellent SQ and sure to liven up the lounge even though the music might be out of fashion 3
Ian McP Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Modern Sounds From Italy on the brilliant Schema label here's a cheap copy https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MODERN-SOUNDS-FROM-ITALY-Various-Schema-Records-CD-Digipak/361627967122?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20161027085944%26meid%3D90d3cc04ce78484f8cb0f6f908baeec7%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D182966208399&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1 https://www.discogs.com/Various-Schema-Records-Presents-Modern-Sounds-From-Italy/release/238740 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modern-Sounds-Italy-Various-Artists/dp/B0000AKX9D < Idizioni-Ishtar's Schema label also can put out one heck of a sampler and Modern Sounds From Italy is proof. I picked this up mostly for the rarity of this and to check out the harder to find artists like Quintetto X, Balanco, etc. All the artists can be found on various Break & Bossa compilations and the Schema artist releases, like "Garota Moderna", "Jet Sounds Revisited" (thanks to ESL), "Fragmentorchestra", "Tre", "Ad Lib", "Les Hommes" (ESL), etc. The music here is classic Schema. There's some good jazz, some good Brazilian influences and most tunes have that usual bossa twist. Never too melancholic, but never over the top, this is a sample of some of these artists feature songs. Check out the cool vibe in Nicola Conte's "Tema in Hi-Fi", the dancing vocals in Rosalia De Souza's "Bossa 31" and Vuca's "Bossafrica" (remember the jazz vocal in this?), or how about the bouncing beat in Gerardo Frisina's "Descarga"? Add to this the intense electric samba with the greatly underrated Fragmentorchestra in "Carioca"... and in the end you have IMO a breathtaking "Theme From Spartacus" done here by Quartetto Moderno. HIGHLY Recommended! With the incredibly LOW price of this cd, how can you not pick this one up? "Love Theme From Spartacus" and "Dreamy Smiles" alone warrant the purchase, let alone the other fantastic musicians and tracks here. Speaking of which - I would highly recommend the works by Gerardo Frisina (Ad Lib AND Hi-Note), Nicola Conte, Rosalia De Souza, The Dining Rooms and Soulstance. S-Tone Inc. has had better cuts on "Sobrenatural" IMO, but the cut here successfully mixes the flow. And naturally, check out the other Schema comps like the Break & Bossa series, "Post Modern Bossa", and "Freedom Jazz Dance". > Here's a track off it: 3
t_mike Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 This poor old record has seen better days. The music however, is as sweet as ever. 4
t_mike Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 This guy has a singing style and voice very similar to Sinatra. 1

t_mike Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I'm currently "south of the border", toe tapping with Chet. Believe me, there's nothing quite like a Mariachi version of Bang Bang ( My Baby Shot Me Down). 1
t_mike Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Continuing with a night dedicated to Chet, this Bud Shank album features Chet quite heavily, with a title mention on the reverse side of the cover. I'm unsure why he isn't mentioned on the front. 3
t_mike Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Starting today with another of Chet's Cheesecake Covers. 2
