kukynas Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Hi guys, anyone experience with filter-balls polyester filtration? I'm kind of sick and tired of sand so was thinking of changing it to polyester, it's pretty new tech at least here in EU so very little info or experience locally, it suppose to filter particles down to 1.5um (sand 25-40um), second benefit should be faster water flow (lower pressure for pump), third is weight, 700g of balls equals to 25kg of sand so it's easier to handle, last but not least should be lower consumption of water for backwash of the filter as it needs backwash less often, pretty easy to take it out of the filter after season's finished and wash it under fresh water so fully reusable I'm gonna buy one pack and try it myself, hopefully it's not one of those marketing BS as was Zeolit and filtration glass, fingers crossed... similar technology to SERA filters used for aquariums many DIYers using polyester padding used in pillows as cheap solution with similar effect... 1
kukynas Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 fully forgot to post some update, below picture of the ball itself, water is crystal clear, pump with much better pressure ratio, so far very happy with this solution
Nigel Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) Seems like a good idea. The filtration is not to the same fineness as Zeolites (5 v 3 microns), but the improved flow rate (?), if true, would mean less strain on the pump and less hours running $$. Edited June 26, 2018 by Nigel
kukynas Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 Steinbach's claiming 1.5 microns and I can confirm that filtration has better effect compared to Zeolit I tried 2 years ago, flow rate is improved and pump pressure went down from 0.8 to 0.5 bar, another advantage is frequency of the backwash http://web.steinbach.at/filter-balls.html?___store=en&___from_store=en#.WzH1WlUzabh
