Nice choices on display here Quark, are you for hire now?  LOL won't be too much longer till you'll be doing the sound checks or have you snuck some in already?

No sound checks yet - still more painting, then cut-outs for in-ceiling speakers etc - too messy for sound checks yet.

Are you visiting down south any time soon?

I was in Melbourne for the ANZAC service & game. Dunno when I'm due back again at this stage. No plans yet.

I like the room.

Looking great Quark.

First time I've popped in for some time.

Love the color choice and the doors look excellent. Will you be staining them? Architrave remaining painted?

Any word on the subs?

Looking forward to following your progress. You must be hanging out for some Wintertime viewing.

The doors are being stained a dark walnut inside the room (then lacquered) and will be limed (and lacquered) on the outside to go with the decor in the rest of the house.

Architrave and skirting is now a couple of shades lighter than the walls.

I'll contact Peter to demo some subs after the carpet goes in next week - considering either 2 x PSA S1500s (a real stretch budget-wise) or 1 x PSA S3600.

I've got about 20 movies and multiple seasons of TV shows to watch!

OK, a long time between updates.

Ended up going for 2 x PSA S1500 subs - excellent service from Peter at Deep Hz as usual - ordered Friday, delivered Saturday.

Had Screenaway blackout blinds installed on both windows. Great pricing, complete blackout, great installer - only downside was longish lead time for manufacture and installation. Other brands offered fancier material with silvered reflective backing but wanted 3 times the price.

Staining and lacquering the doors was great fun - NOT! The Feast & Watson walnut stain I used on the inside was the most toxic crud I've ever used - it dissolved over 100 disposable vinyl gloves while applying two coats. Great fun wiping stain on while trying to remove bits of gloves. Fumes were so bad I went for the breaking bad look - see photo below. There is no way this toxic shite should be sold for domestic use.

A few more photos of how things have come up. Apologies for all the flash bounces and mediocre focus - the room is actually much darker than the photos show and getting a good image is hard.

And a few more photos.

The surround speakers are mounted higher than ideal, but the narrow width of the room and limitations from the sliding doors made for some compromises.

All up I'm very pleased with how it's come up - only a few more things to do for completion.

The biggest compromise that I see is that you no longer have a bar right behind the sitting area...

Lol.  Mate it's looking damn good, you've been able to go the atmos set-up yet everything looks like it's got room to breath.  Very nice!

One other thing I forgot to mention. The used Elektra HD Reference 300 amp I bought used off Ebay developed a fault. It was a very early production model without some of Arthur's later features (e.g. bridgeable to mono). In the pre-Christmas rush Arthur didn't have time to do a diagnosis, so swapped out the innards of a later model - no charge apart from a nominal fee for the upgraded speaker bindings. Arthur is a national treasure!

Wow, that's awesome.  Great to hear.

I should make it clear that the innards were from a demo amp, not brand spanking new, but given mine was such an early model, I'm more than pleased.

Yep, that's definitely a win, particularly considering Arthur is the one who did the work - there's your warranty, so to speak!
