The VPL-VW270ES is completely trounced by the N5 imo. And I like to think that the N5 will retail at, after dealer discounts, around $7-8K. Time will tell. I still think the N7, although not cheap, will be the sweet spot amongst the new native 4K JVC projectors... 1

The N5 may very well be, especially at a discounted rrp (although I still think $9.5K rrp is too high), but with the dual irises and the DCI-P3 filter (especially if you have a small screen and can afford to lose the lumens) I think the N7 may have the edge. The NX9 is being overpriced here. Same goes for the N5 locally. The only one currently *near* the ballpark is the NX7 here at $11,999.

Gotta love competition. I wonder what the discounting will be like for the VPL-VW550ES and N7... A quick check of retail prices for the VPL-VW570ES in Europe and the UK reveal it's priced a little lower than the N7, so around $10-11K RRP for it in Australia doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility. How dark would you be if you paid full RRP for a VPL-VW550ES (around $15-16K) 12-18 months ago! 2

You think of the new lenses as all being hand picked essentially since each one should outperform the old models. Also I had two very bad sample 9900's in a row , both lenses horribly inferior to my 9500, so the hand picked thing is thrown out the window as far as I am concerned. 1

The thing I keep hearing is these new models are sharp all over the screen not just in the middle. That's what we all need. 2

Mr Diamond Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Oddly enough, if talking about the Optoma UHD65, dare I say I actually quite liked it for its pricepoint and what I witnessed when I saw it instore at a local West Coast Hifi. Didn't have lense memory or anything but picture wise I actually thought it was better than the Epson 9300. It was ages ago now so can't explain it, but I remember leaving the store at the time thinking hmmm... Optoma hey? Anyway, in keeping with the "2019" aspect of this thread, it really does seem like the N7 is the only "decently" priced one (IMO of course). I wish JVC all the success with it!
