About 70 hours up on it so far over the course of about 6 weeks :) which when compared to how many hours I clocked up on my old Sharpvision DLP (around 1000 hours over 12 years) shows I'm getting a heap more use out of the N7.

Getting this projector has made me love watching movies at home again. I'm seeing (and hearing with my Maestro M5 AV processor and 5.1.4 Atmos setup) new things in movies that I've seen many times in the past and have never previously seen! It's like watching a movie for the first time again :D

Is the free bulb offer only for North America or is it worldwide ?

Since you received your projector before the end of March, wouldn't you be eligible?

I'll go one better than that I hope. I'll have my new site www.4Kprojectors.com.au up and running and we'll have specs and overviews, reviews with direct links to all the main forum threads around the world, ekki and kraine's reviews and testing. Basically everything from calculators to specs to reviews etc, all under one single site. All current 4K projectors from jvc to sony and benq to epson etc. Will include upshifting 4k projectors too. just waiting for my web guy to assist then we'll work out the layout and simplest way to showcase everything. should be good.

You know, I've got to say that this practice of projector companies to have different model numbers for different countries really pisses me off.  It's incredibly  annoying to read a review of  a newly released projector in the US and then have to spend hours or sometimes days to seek out what the hell it is called in your country and get some confirmation that the model you think it is is actually it.  If it's a brand you don't follow there can be  numerous models still on the market and you have no idea which is the current model.  JVC is particularly egregious. Take this sentence from Projector reviews describing the same projector from a few years ago. The DLA-RS600U and the virtually identical DLA-X950R are JVC’s flagship models for the US Market (called the DLA-X9000 in Europe). Why can't they just call the damn thing the same worldwide.  They can have designations in the serial numbers to country code them.  There's no reason to have it in the model number.  It just seems like at every turn the home entertainment industry goes out of their way to make it difficult for interested consumers to  buy their products.  Like Panasonic limiting their 4k players to Best Buy and Value Electronics.  You have an entire country of consumers who want to buy the players, but the product is limited to one chain store and a single  hifi shop. I live in Sydney, the biggest city in Australia and there are exactly two shops that carry the new JVC's and only one has a demo unit set up (the N5).  Thank god JVC seems to have named this line the same worldwide.  So I can only demo the N5 and imagine what the N7 is like. The BenQ website lists one place under its Where To Buy link:  Big Picture People, which is exclusive to Victoria and Queensland.  They don't make it easy on us.

I think it is to frustrate Grey Markets and make it difficult for consumers to claim they didn’t know they’d bought an OS model that has no warranty.

And an attempt to confuse the masses and hide how ripped off Australia is when it comes to consumer electronics?

I don't think they know what to call them. In Australia it's meant to be the N5, N7 and NX9 (assuming X is for the e-shift 8k thing) Then in the USA it's the RS1000, 2000, 3000, but they also list them as NX5, NX7 and NX9.

Strangely JVC have 2 separate distribution channels in the US ; one for installation companies and one for retailers I read ..Maybe its so they can figure out who gets the free lamps ? not likely  :) We always get the EU's designations ; maybe its to do with identifying deinterlacing video norms - 50i countries vs 60i and the right algorithm to prevent sd frame judder;)

They haven’t. In the US the NX-5 is the RS1000, the NX-7 the RS2000 & so on.

You're right .  I'd forgotten about that. The madness continues.

Unless things have changed in recent years, projectors  for sale outside Japan have traditionally  been made with multi-voltage , multi-format  and able to take on any format in any country. With streaming services  you can get a mixture of 50 and 60 fps in any country.  Model designation and mains cables are the chief differences between regions.

This reminds me of when I  was looking to buy a brand new Sharp XVZ-21000 which was priced around  $12k in Australia.   An enterprising dealer in the USA landed a shipment of new Sharp DT-5000 projectors  which  were destined for the South American market  but were identical to the XV-20000/21000 . He sold them for  $3k plus shipping and I pounced on it.  (It still works perfectly today).

Yes of course your right ; was 1/2 thinking from the perspective of older avr's with video processors ntsc scaling screwing up our pal 50i  dvd feeds :) Of course they had to name them differently in other countries for no good reason apart from 3/2 pulldown that wasn't needed with 50i B)

It appears that EVERY one of the NEW JVC,s is effected by the "Yellowing" Gamma /Dynamaic Iris issue.

JVC have said there is NO fix available and only solution is to NOT use the Dynamic Iris !!

Hopefully the next revision has what this series "should" have had .?

That's pathetic! Between the many reports of poor panel alignment, soft lenses and now the yellow tint isn't going to be fixed, there's no way I'll be buying this year's JVC models.

Wonder whether JVC will survive this debacle long enough to get a chance to fix things with next year's models.

After some good years where quality control was mostly good, it seems JVC have gone back to their old ways of bungled engineering and near enough is good enough QC.

certainly seems a lottery to get a good one with the couriers not helping.... I do understand according to a manni post the yellowing occurs when you crank wide open the iris... so quite possibly those not seeing it have the iris just cranked down enough not to see :) those with a good example and happy with things probably thanking their lucky stars

I bet jvc cant get a revision of this projector out fast enough... I always suspected with a completely ground up new projector there'd be a beta test phase, which if want to avoid sony seems better option... not that they are without issues or lacking in some ways either....time will fix all this in good time I am quite sure ....

benq & epson should capitalise with a new model in the 8-10k range and quick ....

Oh man this is tragic. They really need to bring their A-game when you have BenQ, Sony and Epson doing good things .  BenQ have really raised the bar this year and are paying closer attention to their customers opinions. Very impressive projectors and my personal fave right now. Yes I know I sell them again now, but if you know me, i'm not about being a box mover. I sell them because they're damn good. I even have a 990 here and see some minor rbe, it needs firmware fixes, but if the engineers and developers at BenQ are happy to work with us peasants then it goes a long long way to perfecting the product because we use them, we know what they need... I can barely fault the 990 aside from native black level and some work needed with the laser dimming. (and maybe a few remote control menu changes) The image has been compared to the Sony 5000 which is 90K retail? Incredible really.

Funny though I never saw the yellowing on my N7 nor has @Davo1972 ? Maybe the first ones didn't suffer from it. I'm sure they'll sort it out eventually. Just read your post @betty boop so that would explain it.

One of the problems the 3 chip mobs may never fix is just that, 3 chips + couriers. You're talking single microns of movement = convergence and colour fringing on screen and the software driven helper they use only blurs the pixels, as Owen has said a trillion times. A big bonus for DLP is that never happens.

Davo has it I think, pretty sure we saw it when we were there viewing his.

Yep, apparently  "ALL" units are effected! ?

it is related to how much crank open the iris though. as many crank wide open it will be noticeable to them. whereas others will clamp down. this is something mani did identify. and will explain why some see and some dont :)

they just need to up the ante with an 8700 or something :D at present we have the 5700 which leaves a big leap to the other models which still look a bit more commercial than consumer.

am not sure be able to do anything re RBE ! once seen it cant be unseen. its good if its only a little the optoma I saw was horrendous ! ?

most things will have some compromise or other. none of us are budget unlimited meaning have to put up with something or other that isn't quite there. impossible for anything to be all pleasing in anywise
