But that being said I do like Apple's approach to customer service, if you break your $$$$ iPhone they just give you a new one... This keeps their customer base satisfied and happy but doesn't affect their bottom line financially as each iPhone costs less than $US100 to be manufactured by robots at Foxconn. Pixels in a camera mean way less than lens quality, always has, always will. My iPhone X camera is superb. I doubt any manufacturer would spend more than 10% of retail on pure manufacturing costs. This is the world we live in with public companies.
A J Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Any information on the Bluetooth specs ?- I’m wavering on an LG given Its better music specs but it will be a mission leaving the iPhone universe

Curiously Samsung the supposed Android leader isn't taking part of the pixel race either with the exact same 12 megapixel for the S9 and Dual 12 megapixel for the S9 Plus as the iPhone lineup for their rear cameras.

You probably don't want to know what Android do with your data and biometrics then.... You are correct that data privacy is a big concern and is something that is worth knowing about when choosing a phone. Apple keeps the biometrics on the phone (unless you upload it to a cloud backup which I assume is encrypted.) and doesn't sell your data to 3rd parties. They even go as far as refusing to put backdoors into iOS for governments to use despite pressure from various governments to do so. 1

A J Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Bluetooth 5.0Yep I can see that - I’m talking about high resolution audio capabilities such as aptX HD and or LDAC

Yes the US government in particular, but now that Apple has officially moved its base of operations to China..... Well interesting times ahead Edited September 13, 2018 by aasza

It's more cost effective to use the same components in your products when you have the same company doing the manufacturing... Samsung & Apple Phones are both manufactured in the same primarily robotic plant by Foxconn

What's needed is a new open standard to replace or augment standard bluetooth but it won't be along any time soon, probably until the owners of one of the proprietary standards has a reason to open up their own standard in this case.

Wonder if there's any way to confirm this. I had a problem with an iPhone 4 that was just within warranty. The replacement on that occasion was refurbished and you can expect the same if the model has been out for more than a few months. The replacement didn't last very long - about nine months - but that was unlucky, I know a couple of other people with replacement/refurbished iPhone 5's that have kept going for several years.

Apple has their own Bluetooth like system? I though AirPlay requires wifi

And that's what makes it better than any bluetooth system if you require quality audio. As it uses ad hoc wifi it's fair enough for me to make a statement like that in an audiophile forum, I think. I wouldn't put it that way elsewhere. And I don't drive (so no car system) or keep music on my phone... but if I did want to play music from my old iPhone I'd invest in making AirPlay work and would expect audiophiles in the Apple ecosystem (awful term, that) to do the same if they want quality.

Hmmmmmmmm that really depends on what you require. When the internet is out wifi based transmission becomes a tragedy.

Using eSIM requires a carrier plan, which may include restrictions on roaming and switching service providers, even after the contract has expired. Not all carriers support eSIM. The use of eSIM technology in iPhone may be disabled when purchasing from some carriers. See your carrier for details.* And here's a list of carriers that currently support e-SIM technology (Only 14 in the entire world) https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT209096 Edited September 13, 2018 by aasza

I'm told it can be a little messy sometimes, but doesn't that also describe bluetooth...
