I would like to avoid painting, and as I was planning on using screws, an outer skin would hide these. At the same time I read that using 2 different materials can help with reducing panel vibrations.

Subs are equally spaced apart in the room, so delay time is the same for both. If both drivers and cabinets perform similar to each other I could EQ them as a single source. I don't think the amp can be returned so easily.

For subwoofers, bracing is by far the most effective.... to the point that you should focus on nothing else.   Your second skin will do nothing much in comparison.

I do 2 braces vertically and 2 horizontal in a 50cm cube that my sub is. I only use 18mm mdf on all sides but (2 layers laminated) 36mm front and back. I also like to use a cheap pillow (2 in a pack fro $6 at target.

I know it doesn't change the qtc much etc but I feel it may limit some internal reflections rightly or not.

Pics for reference

The best sort of bracing is where each wall .... is tied to every other wall.     ie. a "matrix" kind of bracing.

A big step towards that is making sure the braces are fixed to each other.

The sound waves are too long to create "internal reflections" in such a small box.... and the pillow doesn't do a very good job of changing low frequencies anyway.

From a design perspective I would like to build some very shallow boxes. Meaning there will only be 10-20mm of space behind the drivers magnet and the backside of the cabinet.

Is that going to create some problems with internal reflections or pressure?

Read the first six pages and skipped to the end (short attention span) some good questions and answers being given. Not sure what cabinet design was chosen but it seems you were been steered towards sealed subs?

Hehe... The cult of sealed.   :)

I think it's a little more general that that.   It really boils down to "don't solve problems you do not have".

If you need a port, then cool..... ported designs aren't the devil....  but they have issues, so you want to be getting something in return.

One of my requirements is a small/mini box and a flat SPL output at a 105dB max, where I think a sealed sub fits the bill just fine.

I am considering building a box 600h X 600w X 250d.

Using 25mm MDF double baffle thickness and 6 braces gives me about 40l of net internal volume.

Need to give it some solid and heavy footing or I might have to fix it to the wall.

I'm thinking roughly double that 600 x 600 x 542 internal, but with lots of bracing in three different directions.

Thinking 32mm walls (2 x 16mm cheapest way to go, $31 a sheet, 25mm is a custom order) Maybe 3 layers on the front (maybe only two).

As Dave says, bracing has the biggest impact - no need to go 3 layers for the front if the bracing is sorted

True, done right it is only overkill.

Does someone have any experience with a pro amplifier that doesn't have or need a noisy fan?

Any of the Yamaha units, either the recently superseded P-S range or the new PX. I have and use both and I don't think I've ever heard the fans come on.

Edit: I posted this when I'd only read about 1/3 of the thread and see you've got an iNuke.
