Grizzly Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 This week I was given a "box that turns things into surround sound" by a colleague who was clearing out his shed. It turned out to be a Yamaha DPP-1 which was an AC-3 decoder from the mid 90s, Laser Disc territory!! Anyway after a little yougooglising I discovered that technically it's only for multichannel AC-3, you can pretty easily put it into a diagnostic mode and turn it into a stereo PCM DAC. And the results are really surprisingly good, with a nice liquidity and an ease of presentation. I'll live with it a bit longer but for the outlay I'm pretty happy!!
huxmut Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I think I heard one of these many moons ago ?? Is this the one with the "RF" jack on the back ? I vaguely remember that being for the laser disk input ??? Either way, nice pickup. They're built to last

Guest Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 A better photo. Apparently it'll accept a 96khz signal as well, though I've no way to test this with a coax input. 1
