Looks like Soran Kristensen has picked up his game also with a new flagship R2R DIY board that's not too expensive. http://www.soekris.dk/dam1941.html

"It support up to 24 bit / 384 Khz PCM and DSD 256 input, with FPGA based reclocking and custom digital filters, < 0.3 ps jitter clock generator, with 27 bit resolution. Firmware can be upgraded though a standard serial interface."

I believe this ready made Soekris Dac may use the above board, without balanced output.

This is the one with balanced output.

Here is a review of the 1541

dac https://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/soekris-dac1541-dac-amp-stream-of-consciousness-impressions.4791/

Reason for such a price difference, I believe the balanced need double the amount of discrete R2R resistors, and may not necessarily give better sound than the single ended.

i think they are both using the previous board. the review was written 07/2017.

soren says the sound has not changed "much" but the new board allows more flexibility for "attachments".

i have a dac made from the previous board and it is exceptional "in my system".
