I'm sure this is discussed somewhere, but as you need to hit standby twice (second time to confirm), is there an easy way to handle that with a harmony, or is it just a case of having it try twice.  Can you disable that second confirmation?

Also, I have the timer on the projector set to 2 hours.  My previous Epson was smart enough to only turn off if the projector was idle for that whole time, but the JVC just seems to plow ahead regardless and keeps threatening to turn off in the middle of me using it :D

A Harmony remote will deal with the two standby presses as part of the standard way it handles turning off JVC projectors.

I don't use the timer option - maybe someone else can help.

Ah I'll try the harmony again, I was having issues getting the IR transmitter in a good spot so might just have been that.

For the timer, maybe I just won't bother. It's really just a fallback in case the PJ gets turned on somehow by accident, or I forget to turn it off, so it's not just running all night :)

personally while use harmony i don't fire projector with it... as far too easy hit activity by accident that needs projector or can have a mis fire and don't want to be power cycling projector either so  just use the ivc remote to switch on/off and rest of system works off harmony.

not sure re timer....because need to use jvc remote specifically ... never had a problem ever of projector turning on .... :D or left on ....

Also did the light measurements, ended up with -10 for SDR and -4 for HDR not that  that means much I suppose. Quick question, is Cinema meant to be set to Wide in the HDR section?

Also should I also calibrate the HLG setting as it seems it’s set to auto switch to that when it detects HLG. I guess so hey ?

Can I just confirm, that if I’m able to achieve the 30ish FL for HDR in low lamp mode, then there’s no downside to doing that (but the upside that the lamp will last a bit longer and it’ll be quieter obviously)?

I haven’t tried yet, but I will if it’s worth a go.

Thanks!

yep 100% go for it ... if can achieve ~30FL for HDR in low lamp thats plenty fine and will be getting a great end result UHD HDR wise... enjoy ... :)

and yep will mean run your lamp on low not so hard as on high and will be quieter last longer...

Hi all,

Sorry if it's been covered before. I'm in the market for a new projector and was wondering if anyone could advise where I could demo the N5 and N7? It would be great if they were both in the same place, but that's highly unlikely. I live in SE Melbourne (Carnegie).

I might be able to stretch the budget to the N7, if I can get a good price, but its around 2.5K more, so it would have to be a noticeable difference for that price difference. I guess you miss out on the WCG filter on the 5 vs the 7. Also, do JVC have specials here with an extra lamp, like in the US? I assume they don't as I haven't seen it mentioned, but thought I'd ask.

I'm coming from a Sony 360, 570 and Benq w2700 (last 3 pjs I've owned).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I recommend Frankston Hifi for an N7. I think Big Picture People in Cheltenham have an N5 on demo.

I too was trying to figure out whether to go for an N5 or N7. After seeing both, the N7 with the filter IMO is worth it. Frankston Hifi were great on the price.

Is there a way to tell them apart? As far as I could tell N5 & N7 have exactly the same shell? Is there a way to check model number in settings?

Hi Benny,

Yeah good question, they do look the same.  There is a quick way to tell them apart - the N7 has a golden ring outside the lens, and the N5 has a silver one. See vid below:

Well my projector did the usual vertical stripes again so its packed up and sent to repairs. Hopefully it won't be too long. Anyone experience dealing with JVC and how long they get back to you regarding parts etc? I was told the technicians upload the info and then they email the error codes to JVC which in turn they find out what the problem it.

Some parts are stocked, others are not and must be shipped from Japan.

Error codes are sent to Japan which slows things down for JVC here and their customers of course.

Hope you get a quick turnaround. We have another here in Qld in the service centre for other problems straight out of the box.

I was told they that have new JVC NX9 In stock. Not sure why they don’t exchange like Sony do. I’d rather one with a current build, I assume the issues have been all fixed.

They do exchange, they just have to get them back first, inspect, get error codes sent and then get the go ahead from Japan. Do you have the 7 or 9 Frank?

The 9. Well I’m hoping I get the go ahead and get a new one with a more current build date Rich. Don’t get me wrong the one I had was actually quite good apart from the issue.  ATM I feel like I’m playing lottery with these projectors, hoping I get a good one.

Just recieved an N7 today and have set it up.  I am wondering if I have a grey uniformity or some other kind of issue, I don't remember it being like this on my x5500..  On a totally white screen with the iris opened right up on the natural preset (no other changes) I notice the centre it nice and white but all around the edges and corners there is a slight green tinge.  I have only noticed it on a pure white screen so far but I am only a couple of hours into use.  I have tried to take a photo of what I see but it doesn't it show it too well, looks a bit different in person.  Am I being overly picky or is this something I can fix somehow.

its hard for me to notice anything there but looking on a small laptop screen and probably different in person. i think i can see a pc desktop ... anything related to that at all ? have you tried a test disc on a conventional disc player and check the colour uniformity test patterns ... as i can't report anything like this sorry and have looked at pure white a very many times .... when setting iris and such...

I just tried the disney wow blu-ray and it also looked the same, low/high lamp or iris level doesn't have any effect on it.  I asked my partner to come and have a look and I had to really point it out to her for her to notice it and even that she had trouble seeing it.  I haven't noticed it one bit in content (just when there is a lot of of white content, e.g. google.com and can notice it even here but less pronounced) which is the main thing so unless it gets worse I might just wait until I get it calibrated in a few hundred hours and ask the calibrator's opinion.  Thanks for your help.
