Guest Muon N' Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Decent rig there Mines now 8 years old so not much point, back in gaming and over clocking days I was running BM's a few times a week looking for that extra few frames after some hacking. Super PI, Passmark and 3D Mark.

Guest Muon N' Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) That would be interesting, as given similar specs as warweary, I remember in the past I could have for example the exact same hardware as someone else but a different brand of motherboard using the same chip set yet the board the other guy had would be better performing and this would be reflected in the benchmarks. Plays my games at over 60FPS and almost full graphics like Starcraft 2, Dirty Bomb, Battlefield 4. HDD needs to be swapped out for Hybrid HDD's Interesting to see the comparison between the Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti Vs Nvidia RTX 2070 considering the price difference. It's not a gaming machine, you have a professional 3D (OpenGL) graphics card, a server class CPU and a NAS grade bulk storage drive. The machine is made for things like a CAD application and other modelling tasks. The huge amount of RAM you have isn't going to speed up typical desktop tasks or gaming, but it will be great in the intended application of this machine. You'll note mine is very good in CPU and the OS disk, but comparatively weak on the GPU, this is by design, I spent money on things that pay off in Photoshp and Lightroom, and saved on things that aren't a significant benefit for those applications. I use WD Black (multimedia) drives for my working files, but slower ones for bulk storage. Put a gaming machine that beats yours in these benchmarks up against yours with a 3D CAD application using OpenGL and the situation would likely reverse with yours comprehensively beating the gaming build. Plex does transcoding so it can use plenty of CPU, but people run Plex on NASs, so it can't be too arduous. I'd leave things as you have them, but perhaps scale back next time you replace the desktop/everyday machine. 1

You could also consider swapping the RAM as well. 1

He coaches a team so records a lot of games & lots of map saves for game plays. He was more then happy with mine so I have used similar components. Only things that are different- Mine- Noctursa DH15 CPU cooler New- AIO Corsair H100i CPU cooler Mine- Corsair HM1000i PSU with factory cables New- Corsair RM1000i PSU with aftermarket Corsair sleeved cables with built in resistors (no idea what they do lol) Mine- i7-9700K New- i7-9700KF Again I've gone for the NVIDIA GTX-1080Ti GPU, (I use the Founders Edition, only available second hand) Until Ray Tracing is a real world thing, I can't justify the price tag on the RTX series GPU's. Until then I don't think you can beat the GTX-1080Ti cards. Just look at scores of both series in this thread & others. Looking at the SSD sores on all these systems, I'm surprised to see a few low numbers there, I can't see why they would be so low? Is it the CPU, GPU or RAM? I can't see why there is a large difference between mine / new HDD & RAM. Might have to upgrade mine lol I'm so tempted to grab a i9-9900K to try out. Would like to see if anything has a huge improvement. Both PC scores below.
