I've already spent many many hours on my X7500 setup working around the 18Gbps limit and as this is just a secondary setup it is PITA I'd prefer to avoid if possible. If we have one in the office tomorrow would you like to come to Newington (during business hours) to test it out before they go on sale?

The Epson was just slow to game but so were Sony, only jvc at start if uhd had the full bandwidth chip set. If lower bandwidth epson issue for you rule it out. But then will be looking at current gen machines rather than refurbs and run outs and such 1

I suck at Maths and NO I don't understand the complete way the solution works but I know that at any given point in time there is 4 pixels on the screen, all well lit, all the right colour and all being addressed individually. Someone much smarter than me figured out how to do it and it works the best today it ever has! We have a UHD203 in the office too if that helps? Edited March 13, 2019 by Matt_Walker

A fair few of us use HTPCs. If anyone has anything in particular to test suggestions are welcome!

The 2700's specs are the latest hdmi iteration so should handle uhd @ 60hz ; their even got the "b" suffix so can handle HLG HDR as well . Quote X2 HDMI (2.0b/HDCP2.2) Just for interest I came across dpl labs certification programme yesterday that has heaps of info on the best true 18gbps cables and the lengths they can pass ; notable how some active cables don't cut it http://www.dpllabs.com/page/dpl-approved-products If you can bring any of these cables that takes an important factor into a/c if your lucky enough to have any of them.. My wireworld chroma 6's like the chroma7s tested have no problem with 30 feet of 60hz uhd so they are accurate .. Edited March 13, 2019 by cwt

jmone Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Firstly, Matt - thank you for your invitation to have a look at the W2700 and please also pass on my thanks to the team at Benq. They were very accommodating with the initial setup and even offered me a Lamington many times! Now onto the W2700 (and keep in mind this is a $2,500 unit and they one I was looking at was a pre-prod unit with older firmware), The Positives: - It is Bright and it is Sharp. Much more so than my JVC x7500 or the Epson TW9000. - I noticed no issue from the DLP / Colour Wheel tech at all. Looked solid as a rock - It had no issues accepting my tested signals formats such as UHD 23.976/50fps @ 8-Bit in RGB and 4:2:0 @ 12-Bit. - Signal Sync time when changing signal format was pretty good (well much better than the JVC anyway) but not as quick as a TV. - No Issue with HDR and SDR activation. - Frame Packed 3D worked out of the box (but I had to keep enabling 3D Auto as it keep changing to OFF in the menu - it was suggested this could be due to the Pre-Prod unit and the older firmware). - It is light and portable - The price is very appealing for all of the above! Areas to Note: - The team at Benq spend about 30min trying to get (including the with a test pattern) a perpendicular (not trapezoidal) image with straight (not curved) edges... and we got close but no cigar. I'm used to plonking down the PJ and adjusting the image using 4 options (Zoom, Focus, Lense Shift Up/Down, and Lense Shift Left / Right). On the W2700 there was a lot of minute shuffling the PJ left, right, tilt, etc. Alot of this This would be hidden by a bit of overscan on a felt boarder but if you are a perfectionist it will drive you around the bend. They team also wondered if it was an issue with the unit itself and while they looked for a 2nd unit we ran out of time. - There is also noticeable but steady fan noise and plenty of heat exhaust but it was on a table and I was only 50cm away from it. There was was an occasional noise that sounded like a HDD seeking from the unit. I did not notice the noise as I moved around the room Summary: I did not try to run away with the Pre-Prod unit at the end of the demo. The electronics are great and the image it beams works really really well for what I want. What is holding me back is simply the lack of install flexibility. It's relatively short throw and it wants to be dead centred and even then you have to make mm adjustments. In short, you are going to need to bend your room to fit the PJ (not the other way around). For me I really want a PJ that can be on a shelf at the back of the room most of the time, then be able to take it outside for a party and then put it back. If you are happy with a ceiling mount pole where the projector is at the same height (or lower) than the top of the screen and dead centre then you will be fine (with a screen with felt boarders). That said..... it's 1/3rd of the price of my JVC... 1/3rd! I've some thinking to do. If I can live with the placement issues then it will be a no brainer at this price point! Get a bigger screen (120" instead of the 100" I've got so I'm not maxed out on the wide end of the Zoom). Raising the screen height and mounting the W2700 "under" the shelf. I really want the W2700 but I just don't know if I can live with it. Sounds like my first Girlfriend!

Any advice for a $2.5K budget TW9000 replacement, should I get: - BenQ W2700 : and live with the finicky placement issue, or - TW9300 : and live with running it at 4:2:0 in UHD (or even RGB @ 1080p at which point it is exactly like my dead TW9000)
betty boop Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 id grab the 9300 personally it comes with all shift necessary to adequately setup and configure without looking to change your screen and revolve your room to fit in not sure you'd find anything else at $2.5 with full warranty (which is very decent on the epson) and like new basically ps I remember also inflexible epsons in the past (6600?) would never touch one of them either.
