Milo Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Anyone seen the movie Skyline yet? Looks like an interesting sci fi movie and the preview seems scary. Or is it a bit too predictable or clichéd for the likes of snaers?
ronfishes Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Yes please tell, I saw the preview whilst enjoying the upperclass 'Jackass 3D' last week
Milo Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 The wife and I, and my Collingwood mate, went to see Skyline tonight. The advertisements had me curious. Now that I’ve seen it my advice to anyone else is: F O R G E T A B O U T I T ! ! ! It was terrible. No coherent sense of a plot, a lot of screaming and pointless violence. It really was a horror movie, not Sci Fi. It seemed as aimless and moronic as Lost and Fringe. JJ Abrams style. For those of you who didn’t like Avatar, Avatar is way better than Skyline. Granted that some of these types of movies have a little plot and character development, the attempt by the movie in the intro part was a waste of time, it added very little. Skyline looks like it was the result of group of Hollywood execs after they’ve had a few too many at a weekend party and then turned up on Monday with an idea for a script. The wife and I watched a 1950/60’s very B grade sci-fi movie on tv recently, called The Queen of Outer Space. It was more entertaining than Skyline, and at least it had a plot. It was silly, but Skyline managed to be sillier. (In case you’re wondering The Queen of Outer Space was about how the women from Venus had taken over their world and banished all men to their moon. Starring a very young Zsa Zsa Gabor, and quite amusing). The only thing Skyline is good for is if you want your girl to jump in your lap and hang on to you for dear life. Other than that, it was drivel with a few special effects. Sooo....don’t get drawn in by the light in the advert...or you’ll cry over your $20 for the ticket.
Keith_W Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 After reading the review in The Age - Skyline is Galactically Awful it has made me want to watch it even more! I am attracted to movies that are either very good, or very, very bad ...
Milo Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 it has made me want to watch it even more! I am attracted to movies that are either very good, or very, very bad ... At your own risk Keith!
stefan534 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 After reading the review in The Age - Skyline is Galactically Awful it has made me want to watch it even more! I am attracted to movies that are either very good, or very, very bad ... I occasionally indulge in that fetish myself. Ever seen the "Fifth Element", Keith?
Milo Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 I love this part from the link to The Age review, Keith: "Sony is apparently "exploring legal options", ranging from accusations of using equipment or know-how from Battle: Los Angeles through to a simple failure to disclose their intentions. The Strause brothers have denied all accusations. Lawyers are circling. Though Sony may have told them to back off after seeing the film, no one wants to argue that their film is similar to Skyline."
Keith_W Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Yeah, seen the Fifth Element but not sure if it is a brilliant movie or a terrible one ... I think it is both Milo the reviews in The Age are fantastic

monaro8 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Yep saw it. I would class it as a B+ movie. Nothing to rave about, although, some of the effects and the creatures looked pretty good. Acting was OK...the story I thought wasn't bad but already told...like Independence Day...The War Of The Worlds etc. Aliens drop to Earth then start kicking the bejessus out of the humans...using their brains to power/control creatures who hunt down people. Not bad but like I said...a bit too B grade-ish...and the Ending, well it left the door open for a series I guess. So it's more like a 'pilot' movie. Vanch...
kunalraiker Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I happened to watch it 5 mins back, ,it is what it is,a monday night over the dinner movie, watch it forget it. That's it.
peterpan Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 the first 5 minutes were almost interesting then it just went down the "b" grade way and was a bit of a dissapointment.
Redone Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 With all this talk of it being B grade I have to ask.........is it STARSHIP TROOPERS kind of B grade?
DRC Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 With all this talk of it being B grade I have to ask.........is it STARSHIP TROOPERS kind of B grade? Unfortunately not; B grade in a Swiss cheese plot kinda way. If you don't say to yourself "that is just @#$%ing stupid" at least 10 times in the movie, then I guess you deserve to be strapped down and made to watch a sequel. Starship Troopers is kinda awesome, very OTT funny.
stav Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Absolute CRAP lost a few hours of my life. Starship troopers was good compared to this garbage . Sorry I think you get the message.
peacewise Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 skyline is boring. nice blue lights for a bit, but story and characters and sfx are yawnworthy
MultiplexMan Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Lazy day and decided to watch this after lunch. I should have taken a nap instead.
Guest Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Viewed as a comedy with TV movie grade SFX it's a fun movie But I'd recommend Attack The Block if you like B-grade alien invasion movies. British film, so it's a bit more gritty and takes itself less seriously as well.
