Stuzzo1553552685 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Hi, I'm thoroughly enjoying the forums. This is my version of the audio visual house. For me the most important triangle is the Hi Fi, the TV and the computer, not the stove, fridge and sink. Having always enjoyed music I got into Hi Fi after getting excited about home theatre and a few years ago purchased the Pioneer 969 DVD player and Marantz 7300 amp thinking they might do the whole shebang...home theatre, music listening, SACD, DVDA .... Unfortunately, despite making a very nice sound, very detailed etc...they didn't quite cut it for 2 channel, IMO. The main faults were excessive sibilance on vocals, a bit bright and a bit lacking at the bass end. I think a common failing in the DVD player/HT amp combo. Have had the Plinius gear for about a year and it sounds fantastic. Detailed, musical, strong in the base and great with vocals. You can hear the words on tracks well away from where the musics playing as it starts out so clear. The CD101 is a great CD player! I bought this equipment after several long listening sessions at Image Audio PNorth and they have always been very obliging with home testing as well. I'm also a fan of some of the Russ Andrews gear from the UK and the Classic Powercord was a hit with me, and I know this is one hotly debated subject on these forums! The future is just a few cable tweaks and an eventual move into high definition though I'm confident the HT amp will be more than sufficient for that purpose. Photos
LHH Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 That's a lovely looking system, bet it sounds great too. I've always liked Castle speakers when combined with Plinius electronics.
quentin Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I just check the specs of your castle speakers, Frequency Response 50Hz-20kHz Nominal Impedance 8 ohms Sensitivity 88dB for 1w at 1m I would say at 50Hz, you would not get the bass you want, and given the sensitivity is at 88db, but your P8 should be able to drive it easily. Why not try moving the speakers out a bit. Is the castle speakers rear ported or enclosed?

The fireplace starts to vibrate at a certain bass frequency anyway! I decided not to run them from the sub to keep the two channel entirely separate. I think they are 1/4 wave base reflex and fire out the bottom so proximty to the wall's not too much of a deal. The Castles are quite directional on the vertical plane, there's a noticeable sweet spot vertically which is why I've toed them up a bit.
NeilNZ Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I loved my Castles while I had them (Howards) with my Plinius 8200 they were marvellous. I'm sure you're enjoying your system as Plinius and Castle seem to make a really good match.
Stuzzo1553552685 Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Have you prepared the crackers and nibbles yet?

Ohhhh theres far more than just crackers That reminds me to post in the other thread. Your center could be somewhat higher? Or a completely different rack system? Maybe you just like it that way?
