Atrebs Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Nirvana back from repair. Sounds even better than it looks. 3 1
Atrebs Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 I love HPA4 Also personal opinion but I think the copper Empy are one of the nicest looking headphones out there. Shame the new Empy Elites don't look anywhere near as nice. Who cares about how they sound??

Still happy with HPA4 too Agree regarding Meze Elites, when I first saw the pics I thought it must be a new mid range model due to the plasticky look. I guess sound wise it’s still early days and time will tell if they will be as popular as Empys. Pretty happy I don’t feel the upgrade urge to get them

Expected to see something more dramatic. Solid price hike on an already very expensive headphone - remains to be seen if it's worth it. I think relax and enjoy your current Empys - I imagine they pair very nicely with HPA4.

Yep, I think it’s a good match. Empys can do with a neutral amp due to mid bass hump. HPA4 is nice and clean and tips them towards more neutral and brings out plenty of detail to my ears.

mwhouston Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 My latest and could be my greatest DIY tube HP amp. Similar schematic to a Bottlehead but much quieter PS. Big fat solid sound on 32ohm phones. I called it “Priory”. 9
mwhouston Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Trying the new DIY tube HP amp with Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros 250ohm. So far so good. Always felt the 250ohm sound better than the 32ohm version. I have both. 3

I think the new Eidolic 3.5mm plugs have a color coded ring on the back that screws on and labels L/R neater. Will see when next ones arrive, if they ever do. Hey Ben, I haven't followed all of this but are these Eidolics comparable to Furutechs you have used? Don't assume any prior knowledge on my part where cables are concerned.Thanks. Rob
Domza84 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 There are some absolutely striking systems here on these pages that look just sublime.. I thought I might post up some pics of my current setup. I have recently moved the setup into a dedicated room which will band together as a headphone / Hifi room. I spent some time doing my own research on headphone amplifiers and headphones and had a fair idea of what I wanted. I have a few headphones in my collection with a few that are currently on my radar. My system comprises of the following; Burson Audio Conductor 3XP Focal Clear MG (open back) Oppo PM-3 (closed back) Sennheiser (closed back) Alpine SV-H300 (Black & White versions) My main source of playback is via my iPhone 11 PRO MAX via the USB input which can play resolutions of up to 24/192. I have a Bluesound Node (2021) which is on order so that will be my other source of playback. I also have a Marantz CD5005 CD Player. I have a few other headphones on my radar which I intend to purchase which are the Shure SRH1540’s (casual listening) and the Focal Utopia (reference listening). Okay so onto the pics.. Thanks for viewing.. 10
Ehrmantraut Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 You never have to "Give me the reason" in the "Here and now" to listen to my main man Luther - a forgotten talent....."So amazing" and you obviously realise that "Your house is not a home" without him! 2

You will find the 3XP and Utopia's an awesome match when you get there. How are you finding the 3XP? I love the sound of mine, particularly on balanced outputs. Only niggle I find is changing gain is fiddly, and on more efficient phones like the Clears/Utopias in low gain mode the digital volume control takes a lot more turning / work than more traditional direct volume knobs. Enjoy 1

Great album for sure, certainly a great test for midrange for and subtle bass down low.. 1

Enjoy Thanks mate, yeah I’m loving the 3XP and with the the Focal Clear MG’s along with the other headphone me in my collection, I find them very resolving and fantastic to listen to for hours on end. I use the Balanced connections with my Clear MG’s and it’s a great pairing that’s for sure. Yeah, I do find the volume can take some doing to get to the adequate levels but with the remote it’s a non issue for myself personally, but I know what you mean. I can’t wait until I get the Super Charger 3A to replace the standard power supply, after chatting with Burson Audio, it will apparently lower the noise floor even further. The way it is now (factory) I am very happy with the performance in this respect, so am quiet keen on this small upgrade as it seems promising.
Atrebs Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 This cable is so lush and smooth I had to ask Ben what special sauce he lathered on... 4
franky995 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 Gorgeous looking cable, must bring the best out of HD800S!
Panimation Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Special thanks to @Indie Hi-Fifor letting me picking it up earlier. 6

Atrebs Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 How does the spring sound? Mine is on the way to me
Panimation Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 13 minutes ago, Atrebs said: How does the spring sound? Mine is on the way to me Pretty damn good to my ears. A nice step up from my Soekris Dac1541 which imo is an organic sounding dac but Spring 3 improves even further with wider staging, better slam and separation with a pitch black background. Can't wait for you to get yours! 1
