Pick these up recently and talk about synergy!

Dave + Stellia is seriously competing with the WA33 + Susvara combo. And yes those are the famous hifiman noodle cable as Stellia's cable wayyyy too short! image.thumb.jpeg.10de9ab2d305a4fbaaebc6069ede16cd.jpeg

Holo hung around for a week, no one wanted the chord setup so I'll have to keep it. Honestly, Holo was great and analogue'ish, but after a while I crave the detail and cleanliness of the chord setup.

If only there was a remedy for those cables!

I read your comparison on headfi and it very much seemed the Dave (full) set up was more special than the holo may (not allowing for personal preferences of course) but the Dave “betterness” comes at a price

i also shake my head when I read comments on headfi (not yours) saying that the Dave delivers more than holo may but discuss that with no reference to the fact that it is double the price

and yes, i find my susvara better than my athm50x (the “gateway” headphone in this hobby) - who would have thunk it??!!

Yes all the talk with Holo, it's just the thing I have to try out for myself to cross off the bucket list :)

Thought I contribute as I spent quite a bit of time over the last few months putting together my current setup.

It all started with a Susvara + Topping A90 / D90, but the headphone bug bit hard and the lockdowns just provide excuses to splurge.

Below is the result after hours of headphone listening with iPad in hand doing “research”, and of course some “liquid courage” helping along.

My, my that’s quite a step up! 👏👏

Value is as subjective as sound reproduction. It’s al in the ear of the beholder. Is a Skoda really a VW, really an Audi, really a Porsche, really a Lamborghini? Yes and no. They’re all owned by the same company and yes, there’s no doubt there’s trickle down tech but if you have driven all of them and yes baby I have…well then you know. Is a Lamborghini worth 20X a Skoda, well that’s up to you.

The incremental perceived increase in SQ is not linear to the dollar and many a TOTL piece of kit is overpriced in terms of it’s actual tech and build. A lot of that is brand value. The benefit of this forum is that we can share our experience and all learn from it. Maybe save a few of our heard earned $$ and make some fiends (I mean friends) in the process - now that is value!

Just for the record, I think the Holo May is every bit as resolving as the DAVE and more musical but YMMV and that’s ok!

Since my signature underneath, I’ve added the Sennheiser True Wireless 2, the Dragonfly Cobalt DAC, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max in the same blue as my phone because I’m a wanker. 😀

Set up moved to lounge floor. Using a acacia chopping board to keep it off the carpet.

Currently loving these black treasure Chinese 6sn7 tubes. Cheap and starting to sound great.

I've had these since about 1980. They still work but needs a new cable because there's crackling/cuts out from the left speaker. Apart from that they still sound fine.

Sennheiser HD414

Wow lots of midfi to bounce between tonight.

Bottlehead Crack is awesome.

SW51+ is two steps above all amps here.

650 still the best.

I had a local woodworker recreate the Salamander Design rack, but smaller for headphone amps. Really floored at the results!

Very nice.  Looks like another is required...that or a couple of more tiers.

Haha, I purposely chose only two levels so I force myself to stick with just two amps!

Completed the HD800 setup.

Almost….completed :) (if there is such a thing on this hobby)

from memory from when i bought my hd800, a few years back, and I looked at the senn amp, you should/may get better performance when using the balanced headphone output

this was back in the days when I thought “do people really spend $1000 for a headphone and then spend more on a cable? That’s crazy!!”

I have a balanced cable here, just haven't dug it out yet.

This headphone is damned hilarious. It's 200g and is just a tiny step behind 6X0 in timbre, Utopia in clatiry and Verite Open in slam. And it out sub-bass every one of those headphones, yet isn't muddy at all the bass stays in its lane and the whole FR is extremely clear. Some real interesting stuff in the moders space once you have churned through all TOTL headphones.
