gz76 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Here's my Jecklin Floats: Haven't listened to them in ages (too many other better headphones in the collection), so if anyone's interested in them, send me a PM and we can discuss. I seemed to have a fetish for ridiculously large headphones at one stage. Used to own these too, but stupidly sold them. They were absolutely mint except for the pads! Still regret it.
firefly0071 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Are stax headphones heavy particularly the box ones?
gz76 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Nah, the Sigma's were fairly light and had a good headband system to disperse the weight. They look big, but they're mostly full of air. Oh, I forgot to mention, Tord Gustavsen is a standout listen on the Jecklins. Anyone who has a pair should give Changing Places a spin, very holographic.

Because you can get flagship models for sub 1k instead of 10s of thousands as with stereo gear, you see people with massive collections of gear. Just as some members on here are branching out and trying different secondary systems (e.g. valves, high eff, OBs, etc...) most seasoned head-fi members have at least 2 high-end complete systems with different flavours. For instance lots of them will have a seperate dynamic headphone and electrostatic headphone setup. Because components are also cheaper many members will also have multiple amps and sources for the same system and just mix and match them depending on their mood and type of music they are listening to. Crazy stuff. The one good thing about it is that if you are strong willed and only want to get one set of equipment (and not get sucked into building a collection of gear) head-fi.org is a wealth of information because so many people on there have tried just about every single combination of equipment and can recommend those with the right synergies and sounds for your music/preferences. Damnn... you have been looking at my collection of headphones (HD650, Audio Technica W1000, Byerdynam DT7770 Pro, and Etymotic Research ER4 heads) and my Yammy and Graham Slee amps. What's 4.5k on a headphone system(s)?

Might try that tomorrow.Cheers, Jake I was real disappointed in the ER4Ps UNTIL Etomotic in the US sent me a pair of free replacement buds after I complained to them. They are a soft rubber that look a bit like a toadstool and give a really good seal in the ear canal. Bass improved 100% and noice reduction is much better. Also I think more comfortable that the standard bud offerings. Now couldn't be happier. Kudos to Etomotic for sending altrenative buds at their expense.
4heckssake Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Just added some AKG K701s to the family. :nana Only 6 tracks into them. Detail in spades yes. I can almost tell you what brand strings Steve Kilbey has on his guitar.
Frog Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 AFK K240's here - couldn't afford 601/701 and needed something semi-open at a reasonable (cheap) price, as my eardrums are a bit sensitive to pressure (perforated from diving). Looking to audition other stuff A/B

snake eyes Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 My newest headphone is the Sennheiser HD800 (if I didn't already say so) and I've still got my Rudistor RP-1000 MkII amp to listen to it with. I haven't even compared the HD800 to my Edition 9's or my 650HD yet. I was going to sell the 650HD and the X-Can V3 amp together but for the price I was going to get for them I just gave them both to Dad for free ;o)
seboon Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 i got my first heaphones a 3 days ago, the ATH-AD 900 really liking them
Gabba Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Senn HD485 ($100... new) Senn PX-200 (can't remember) Senn Hd-201 ($46.. new) Desperately want a better pair of headphones for my system as my room is not ideal and my family are around too often to play it too loudly - esp at night.
Gabba Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Hehe, thanks for you help again. I am listening to my system much more frequently and enjoying it a lot more! The HD485s are actually quite good. I got them cheap a few years ago through someone who worked somewhere where they sold them but they are a little bassy. The Mission speakers that I am borrowing are fantastic but my room isn't ideal for a few reasons . I suppose it is just a spot of upgradeitis . Hopefully I can get some more work once the exams are over... There are only so many shifts available for the Melbourne Racing Club.. SNA is fantastic procrastination! Hope all is well.

GryphonGuy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Sennheiser HD650 headphones with the Stefan AudioArt Equinox HD650 cable upgrade. Amp=Lehmann Audio Black Cube Headphone Amp. For all those Sennheiser owners out there with the standard cable wondering if you can make these babies really shine, you can and you will think they have a veil over the sound when you relisten with the senny cable! The Stefan Audio Art cable on the Lehmann amp makes these babies sound so real it is scary and they make a soundstage that is outside the headphones! A W E S O M E.
