Bronal Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 C'mon Gareth, bite the bullet and get serious. Get yourself some Stax. You do like music don't you?
Guest The Fresh Prince Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 C'mon Gareth, bite the bullet and get serious. Get yourself some Stax. You do like music don't you? Damn, I've only just starting to appreciate my headfi set up and I'm already lusting for Stax:rolleyes:
Bus_Boy Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Does anyone else own a set of AKG 272HD's, or am i the only one:popcorn
drummerboy01 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I have the sennheiser hd 800, they are not very old, only not long ago bought them and i use them with my electronic drum kit.
Bronal Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Damn, I've only just starting to appreciate my headfi set up and I'm already lusting for Stax:rolleyes: Too true. The fact is that the entry point cost for Stax is higher than for dynamic 'phones, but over time this is evened out by the fact that Stax owners tend to keep their 'phones and amps for longer periods of time. Being patient and vigilant can deliver some surprising bargains.

Like your Stax 007T??
Phantom Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 My partner bought me a set of Sennheiser HD 555 'phones for Christmas and they sound fantastic with any kind of music I have ever played into them
Cloth Ears Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 audio-technica ATH-910 PRO - foam and steel plate removed, replaced with sheer stocking fabric. A bit on the bassy side, but perfect for listening to music at work - enclosed, can't be played too loud (or the bass sounds weird), can be listened to for 8 hours straight. audio-technica ATH-AD700 - stock. Lovely, with a similar sound to the AKG 701 (but bass is not as lean) at a third the price. Love 'em.
Henry Vu Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Ive got a Wooaudio 2 headphone amp. Headphone wise I've got Alessandro ms-pro's, dt880, hd650 (in the mail). Ive got shure 530s for portable duties. Ive owned, esw9, es7, ad900. One day, I will own the T1 or the hd800, I'd have to a/b them though. A stax rig would be nice to try one day.
Bronal Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I just bought a pair of Stax SR-404 Limited Editions. Anyone else have them?
Al Leece Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I just got a pair of AKG 514 'phones for a course I am doing. Otherwise I would probably just use the Sony noise-canceling ear buds I bought in the States.

Vintage Stax though are much better value in many cases than dynamic headphones.
snake eyes Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I was actually going to buy a STAX Omega II but then I would have to buy an electro-static amplifier to power them, apparently. Because I bought my RP-1000 MkII amp not that long ago I can't afford to do that just yet . Oh well maybe another day but first I want to buy a balanced CD player, get it modded to the max and then balanced my HD-800's and Edition 9's.
Two Flies Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I've been scanning ebay/audiogon for a used set of Grado sr325i or new set of sr225i would welcome any opinions on them. I've listened to the sen 595 and 650 good as they're not for me. I've had the sen 218 and 238 and have given these to my son for ipod thingo.
Drubbing Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I've been scanning ebay/audiogon for a used set of Grado sr325i or new set of sr225i would welcome any opinions on them. I've given the MS2 a good long listen over many hours, which is a 'tweaked for smoothness' 325, and they were still too aggressive for me. And I like the bright, clear Grado sound. The MS1 won't be far away from the 225 in sound and won't have that sort of edge.Certainly the antithesis of the Senn sound. IMO, the MS1 bought new locally from Perth is probably a better buy @ $150, unless you can pick up a 225 for a steal from a reputable ebay seller.
HISPL Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I have a set of German Maestro GMP435S, I mainly use them when I am flying somewhere so the lower impedance works nicely with portable music devices. They are my first set of "high end" headphones, hopefully whilst I am here on the forum I can learn a little more and see if I need to "upgrade"
Two Flies Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Cheers Drubbing thanks for your post, I'll be on the hunt for a set of sr225i, but 1st I need to get one of these headphone adaptors, as the mc240 doesn't have a headphone output, they are made one off by a guy in the US. MomijiTMO Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 What the heck do some of you guys do with like 3+ sets of headphones????? Cry a bit as well as listening to them all to figure out which of the bunch you want to keep. Selling them hurts a bit though
arrow224 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I used to have Sony MDR-Q55 clip-ons. However, my desire for better sound on the go landed me with (my current 'phones) Koss KSC-75 clip-on. Bloody fantastic for the price.
welly Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I currently own: Ultimate Ears Superfi 3 - used with Cowon iAudio7 for commuting/travel (But I just ordered a pair of Etymotic hf5 today...) Grado SR80 - Which I use at work with my notebook. Audio Technica A700 - Use at home for music listening when rest of family is watching TV. Also used for late night movie watching.
saintpeter Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 For portable sound I switch back and forth between Shure se310 and Senn mx95; at home HD600 through X-canV8...
Bus_Boy Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) I just sold my AKG 272HD's to a fellow forum member, and placed an order for a set of Sony MDR V6's.The AKG's sounded nice, but coming from a long history of DJ style cans, i just couldn't get used them.Plus, the fact that they will high light any crap recording, has just about driven me to insanity!! So looking forward now to recieving my new Sony's Edited March 8, 2010 by Bus_Boy
rantan Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Ahhhhhh, headphones. I should get around to buying some, but the usual suspects, all sound bright and aggressive and not like music at all. I hate to use these words but any suggestions for NEUTRAL and MUSICAL 'phones without sonic artefacts and priced under $300 would be welcome...............if that is even possible.
Bus_Boy Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Senn HD555 for neutral IMO.I tested them but i found they lacked a little in the upper fq region. They were new and straight out of the box however. They seem to be a pretty popular model around that price range.
