k371n Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 i need a closed type though for the office. any suggestions? I'm looking at the closed Ultrasone 780 for the office. If you prefer the Senn's sound go to JB Hifi and try out their Senn headphone stand. cheers k_
Stygian Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Audio Techica ATH-AD700's. Bought them a couple of years ago and am still loving them. That said - I wouldn't mind looking around for some new cans sometime. Just to see what's out there

wadiaman Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Well done on the idea of setting up a Headphone Section on SNA. This is a seriously growing sub-market of two channel audio. My gear: Sennheiser 600 w/Stefan AudioArt Equinox Cable Jecklin Float Model 2 Grado SR60 Etymotic ER4S Etymotic ER6i Koss Porta-Pro Sennheiser PCX 300 NC Bose NC Yamamoto HA-02 (Tube) Headphone Amp Headroom Cosmic (S/State) AC/DC Portable Headphone Amp Headroom Airhead (S/State) DC Portable Headphone Amp The Cosmic has just come out of storage and I will start to seriously compare the amps and phones to determine the 'best' combo to my ears. I must admit also to a liking for the higher-end Grado / Alessandro line. I know, I know too much stuff. My wife mentions that from time to time as well...............
jaspert Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 which amp are you currently using Jasper? the darkvoice? do you have a link to their site? cheers k_ Hi Kev, Darkvoice THA 336i headphone amp. First taste of tube and great fun too for very little outlay. It drives the Senn HD650 pretty well. Here's their webpage. http://www.darkvoice.com.cn/product.html iBasso D1 (modded) and P2 for portable.
Bronal Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I got into headphones only a couple of years ago. I could never tolerate them before but find they are quite OK while online. I now have a system next to my PC (but not connected to it as yet). It is: Ultrasone Edition 9 and AKG 701 headphones Lehmann Audio Black Cube headphone amp MF X-10 v3 tube buffer Nordost Red Dawn Interconnects. I've read good reviews of RudiStor amps with the Ultrasones and will probably get one of their so called OTL devices in the future. I did have a Yamamoto for a little while but sold it because I can leave the Lehmann on all the time and so it's always ready for action. Cheers Alan
dr_strange_hifi Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I love my AKG K100's. At the time I bought them I found myself in South Australia and needed something to comfort me in this strange land. New headphones do the trick. When comparing them to more and less expensive models I found them to be better balanced and kinder to a CD source while still providing some insight into the detail in the music. Of course, most headphones are better at revealing detail than a pair of speakers and they are so much easier to carry to!!
Alan Monro Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Tandy 2002 . they sounded good when they were compleate .

PWilson Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Audio Technica ATH-A500 Audio Technica ATH-AD700 AGK K701 Ultimate Ears TripleFi10 Stygian, I really liked the AD700's, as they seemed to be everything I was after in a headphone - fast, open, lovely highs. But for some reason, after a while, I really couldn't shake the feeling that I was accutely aware of having a pair of drivers next to my head. It got to the point where I didn't really like listening to them anymore, and so I started looking at an upgrade. I heard good things about the AKG, and all descriptions were what I liked about the AT's, only a step above. I haven't had a chance to put that many hours on the AKG's yet, but I can't see myself changing for a good long while. Everything the AT's did that I liked, the AGK's do three or four steps above. They're just a brilliant headphone, and imo, worth the gushing that everyone seems to do over at head-fi. Super detailed, incredibly airy, so fast, and they dig a lot deeper than the AT's (I'm surprised by the amount of bass, given they're open). I highly recommend you try a pair out, especially at the new price point. Even if they end up not being what you're after, you owe it to yourself to audition them. Now I just need to sit on my hands and not rush out to find something that will drive them better than the 540A's head stage or my Little Country intro toob amp.
Kamikazi Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Stax Sr-5, SRD6SB power supply. Had to get new diaphragms after 15 years, but still sound the business.
2sheds Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I'm getting a pair of Sennminsters.... Made especially for my commuting pleasure... N.B. Try not to be distracted by the model. I am basically cheap, and was not willing to pay for Jennifer Hawkins to pose in the photograph. I believe Earle is available for calendar shoots and prawn nights... cheers 2sheds
A9X Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Stax- Love them.Best JA Yep. Been a STAX man since I bought my Lambda Pros in the mid 80's. Also have some 404 and some old Magnavox electrets that are pretty nice too. I've got all the parts, and the design finalised for a class A tube driver for them, but the speakers and amps are taking the priority at the moment.I use my cheap, but surprisingly good Sennheiser HD201 when practicing with my bass.

I'm now very interested in the AGK's - and may have to find somewhere to audition these seemingly lovely cans. I'm honestly yet to fault the soundstage of the AT's - but that said, I generally hear the improvement in a new system rather than the faults in a current one. Cheers
