Oh yeah I've factored that in. I'm no fool. Either the 5998 or the very close 7236 poor mans 5998 (is that the right number?) Got some plans for how to make the Crack look unique. Might keep them secret til its done.
bruc3 Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Yep 7236 is correct, can even go cheaper by getting the Cetron version and not Tung Sol for 7236 as its apparently identical.

I like Sylvania 7236 and the JAN Cetron. There's some good 6080s around too. I just sold some graphite core Bendix. https://tubeworldexpress.com/collections/power-tubes/7236 https://tubeworldexpress.com/search?q=6080 1
Ehrmantraut Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 PS - 7236 has more gain than 6080, so factor that in. A bit more linear and brighter.
Bengineer Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 If you sold a tube then it wasn't worth holding on to Neil. Endgame or nothing. Crack is only 2 tubes, so may as well just go all out. Just need to get @Benjet to tell me the specifics of all the little upgrades he has done. Maybe minus those hockey pucks he has strapped to the top.

However Sylvania 7236 are not like the Cetron 7236. IMO the Sylvania are very poor cousin in tone. Edited February 5, 2021 by Odyssey

Odyssey Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Neil for your info... https://www.head-fi.org/threads/oblivion-ultrasonic-studios.902926/post-16162337 I'm simply stumped with what I heard... now I need to put Mogwai Se and Oblivion side by side for a comparison. They are very different sound signature... I have a feeling. Now you have to come to Canberra with your Mogwai Se and we do a comparison.

ColdsnapBry Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Hello, figure I'd share my modest setup. 3
ColdsnapBry Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) Thanks, for now it's clean. Going to eventually stuff a MJ2 or Hagerman Tuba, Bifrost 2, and ZMF Aeolus in that corner. Edited February 15, 2021 by ColdsnapBry

You seen that young dude on YouTube that does a sweet Deftones cover where he plays all the instruments and sings? Has his own music on Spotify too, very Deftones like. Very good. I'll think of his name soon. 1
Ehrmantraut Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Had an awesome meet with Hugo @Indie Hi-Fi yesterday. Primarily to do A-B on Antipodes K and S series streamer/players. We ran two identical systems with Sonnet Hermes and Morpheus and then K30 vs S40 (+/- S20 reclocker and S60 power). MQA vs Non MQA in the Morpheus DAC too. Used the beautiful sounding Auris Nirvana with Psvane EL34 and HE1Kse and LCD4. Jazz vocal and folk were the main genres. 3 Hrs of audio Nirvana later what did we learn? Antipodes make some really nicely built and sounding kit. Lots of good inputs/outputs and nice interface. Yes it is better to me than running a Roon Nuc (and I have a pretty good fanless one). Wider soundstage, instrument separation is better, more lively with Antipodes I like the synergy of the Sonnet Hermes and Morpheus with I2S. The Antipodes S series stack really gives the K30 a run for the money We found it hard to tell between MQA and non MQA in general Both LCD4 and particularly HE1Kse sounded brilliant on Nirvana. A couple of times I had the raised hairs on the forearm thing going and smiling like an audio-fool! Next weekend will hopefully bring a shootout between Mogwai SE, Bigger Ben and Auris Nirvana with Sonnet and Antipodes. Now that will be something!
