The power supply is going external which will free up space for more chokes and a separate supply for the input stage. Top centre is the input stage which is from Allen Wright's PP2C design using cascode differential 6H30s. Below that is the constant current sources for the inputs. To the left is the voltage regulator, an "SSHV" designed by Salas of DIYAudio. Between the output tube sockets is a little bias balance circuit to allow for precise matching of the plate currents. Keep us posted on progress. 300B or 6B4G? What OPTs? Triode PP is excellent topology. Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/

Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/ It was 6B4G and then 300B , I tried both. However the lack of space, with everything in one chassis, meant that the power supply was compromised to a level that I wasn't happy with. I have some NOS 6B4G so the re-made amp, with separate power supply chassis, will use them. The amp was initially an EL34 kit from DIY Hifi Supply in Hong Kong using Chinese output transformers. I hadn't planned on replacing them, due to the cost. But then I thought, I'm pulling the whole thing apart and so if ever was the time to change output transformers, now is it. Lundahl have a good reputation at reasonable prices so I bought a pair of LL1663 5k push-pull outputs. All the metal-bashing and drilling ( the part I'm not much good at) are finished and the new parts installed. Hopefully over this weekend I can fire it all up, without big bangs, and fine-tune the operating points. Edited March 18, 2016 by RoHo

This has taken awhile to design as l'm trying to minimise work when assembling. These look very similar internally to the Sonus Faber Cremonas I had. Should be a good sounding combo.
awty Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Hi all Just a few photos of a guitar speaker cab I just finished building for my son. Was going to be a father and son type project, which ended up being dad does most of the the work and son gets to use. A bog standard cab using veneered chip board and MDF, vinyl cover, bit of trim and a pair of guitar speakers, one 10" and other 12" both 8 ohms, similar sensitivity, wired to run at 16 ohms (he picked the drivers.) Havent hooked it up to the amp (Marshal 100 watt tube) yet, but I think the neighbors will be hearing it very soon. 9

He didnt want any of my "usual ****", so pretty conventional, but I did sneak in some shellac covered oak with brass screws, goes well with the geetar. The vinyl (elephant skin) was a pain, but got it on with a bit of help from the boy.......and its nice a LOAD! Great job Mark, way better than a bought one. Those flush mounted Allan key bolts and nuts are very handy. Edited March 21, 2016 by awty

betocool Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I bought a pair of AC/DC 9V 450mA converters from Jaycar at 3$ each. I just needed to put them in an enclosure, would use them as a low power supply for breadboards and tests and such. What I didn't expect was for Jaycar to sell me a 9V supply that delivers 15V... but I can still work around it. Voilá! Had this lying around, makes servicing and upgrading pretty easy! Will change the main switch though sooner rather than later with a higher quality rocker switch, and put a 240V "On" lamp beside it. And I'm thinking of some panel meters to go with it as well.... we'll see. 1

Dont think he would of minded that at all, just that I tend to get a little carried away sometimes. I went with the vinyl mainly to go with the Marshal amp......also the vinyl covers up all the not so great joints.
Guest Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I think we can probably all agree on one thing when it comes to DIY, be it something like acg horns or a rusty box with salvaged dump drivers and cheap amps.... The moment you fire that thing up for the first time and everything works, beats anything money can buy. I have built, re-purposed, modified and bastardized more things over the years than I care to remember. Furniture, audio stuff, mechanical things, tools, you name it. Even if they never get used, the satisfaction from seeing your ideas and hard work in action is one of the best feelings ever, regardless of what it is. Keep the pics coming, guys. Love this thread.

I will probably switch the current planar tweeter to a Fountek AMT and gain another 3 db and loose the dip that's seen at 15khz. The dips at 180 and 600hz are actually from room nodes which I will fix with the miniDSP. 1
