mwhouston Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 It uses two lots of NFB. both local and global.

mwhouston Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 If it did I couldn’t find it and I’m on a recent release. Others posted ways of getting it on Moode. The latest Volumio and pay about $50 a year gets you Tidal as a source on Volumio. Also MQA. Not that it excites me. It does display bit rate which does excite me. I’m still undecided about Tidal but have a four month trial for $4. 15 day trial with Volumio (now with Tidal ‘cause I signed up) then they start charging. Ive hit Tidal hard of late to see if I like it. Got it on my Samsung phone then HD Bluetoothed (24/48) to my DIY DXD DAC. OK but I felt something missing. Let’s see if Volumio/Tidal direct to my DAC via USB improves sound.

I don’t feel at the moment that I’m using it anywhere near enough to justify paying full-price for it but I guess I’ll see how I really feel when they take it away. 1
mwhouston Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 (edited) Easy through a Pi sever and Volumio payed plan. Does sound excellent and the cheapest way can do it with no more gear required. Same gear I’ve had for years now. Edited March 22, 2021 by mwhouston 1

Found what I will presume will be this amp online and will hopefully be an interesting project to tinker with when it arrives. There is more time to tinker here and there than start a project from scratch.. Day off (and system is packed up), so thought I’d have a look at this. It is a single-ended pentode amp. I’m no engineer but, to me, the circuit looks very basic and I wouldn’t be throwing money at it. The power transformer primary shown is certainly 100v only, not 230v compatible. You need to establish that the amp you’re getting has a different power transformer to make it usable here in Oz. You could use a step-down transformer but that obviously adds to the cost. 1

After many, many years on Moode I’m now on Volumio which I have used in the distant past. Strange as it may sound , regardless of source, Volumio sounds much better and works with my DIY DXD USB DAC. The latest Moode would not. 1
mwhouston Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Can some one help. There was a Realistic receiver for sale here. But I’ve lost the link. Anyone got the link?

Because it is cheap, not because it is good. In Oz, quality playwood is rare, take advantage. Oz does seem to have a large variety of bamboo plywood. If you can get something of the same style as the Stranded or Fossilized varieties we can get are even better and teh cosmetics are superb with nothign but clear-coat. Be clever with your joinery and you can create some interesting visual features. As far as polyfluff goes, i often see it used as volume fill without being sufficiently teased. It is not a necessarilly easy task, some of the more exotic stuff with more tangly bits (like acoutastuff) take a REALLY long time. Fire up a movie, grab the wife and make as big a pile as you can — no popcorn don’t want butter in the fluff. Feedback is there for a reason. Some of the best tube amps out there utilize feedback, nested or global. Some just do not understand feedback. As for the power transformer. It can be substituted with a proper specified 240VAC unit. Remove the volume control that should not serve as a grid leak for the 12AX7 and replace with a fixed resistor of the proper value as per data sheet and replace the volume control with a 50K alps unit. Other improvements can be made but if you go a step at the time you can hear the difference they make as you go along. This being a single ended amp, you will only get an hand full of watts out of it. So make sure you have the right speakers to go with it otherwise you will be disappointed. Enjoy the tinkering. I would go 250K pot. Also speakers better than 90db sensitivity will play OK but better speakers around 96 to 98db will play plenty loud. 1

Sub Sonic Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) I have been fortunate enough to have been able to purchase a small CNC router. Space in the shed is a premium, so while a 1200 x 2400 unit would have been nice, the decision was made to go for a router with a cutting area of 750 x 1250mm, which should still do everything I need it to. First job was to build a bench (yes, I still need to put diagonals in ), second job was to assemble the unit, and the next is to learn to use it effectively - fun times ahead Looking forward to being able to rout some fancy speaker enclosures and baffles I may have been getting a little excited and ordered a few carbide bits to suit. There are more coming too Edited March 31, 2021 by Sub Sonic 7 3
