wen Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) @RePete,the start of my post, Wlid Burro Betsy K, 8" full range drivers. Edited July 23, 2021 by wen
HdB Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 A really surprisingly under-appreciated driver, and cheap so a cost/benefit bargain - need a bit of "break-in" time.

Expand Thanks @wen that’s a driver I’d never heard of, your pics caught my eye because I thought they looked like the Altronics C2000 I’ve been experimenting with. they share some similarities with the Wild Burro but the cones are even lighter at 7 grams vs the 10 grams of the Burro. something special about a crossoverless design do you know if the wild Burro is still available? wen Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 i bought these second hand a couple of years ago, there were none available back then, not sure if they are still producing, or whether they sold out due to price/quality 1
HdB Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Yes, they still have the 3 versions, altho not sure if the Covid has effected supply but Doug Stafford recently wrote on diyA that he has all 3 drivers back in stock - just send an email. The 8" drivers are the "Betsy" (for OB), the "Betsy K" (for the ported box), and the better Alnico version - just the 3 drivers. All these drivers have a much better controlled cone resonances than most of the available FR drivers although the Lii Audio are showing great promise in this area with their new pattern embossed cone that I'd like to hear if anyone in Melb has them. 1
Spinnergeoff Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) The Technica Rustica are completely new build, not original cabinets - I didn't get those. Bass is better than I expected, as is imaging - the staging is spot on. Agree that the heavy side panels mean that bracing is superfluous, as does the heavy - make that very heavy - front baffle and top, which were cut from a treadmill deck. That mdf is rock solid, as it needs to be. Edited July 23, 2021 by Spinnergeoff 1
BuzzzFuzzz Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Thanks @Spinnergeoff Nice work with the matching stands. Yeah, good chunky wood.
mwhouston Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Assembled not wired. For another SNA member who has his own very nice Psvane 6SN7s. Also a different knob is on the way. Back to the heavy gold knobs. Some parts i prewired before assembly but still a lot of work under the bonnet to go. Colour is hammertone blue and the tubes which are in there for show are Grant Fidelity Psvane spheres. Two selectable inputs and two outputs. One to supply signal to a subwoofer. A 24 step stepper attenuator controls volume. 2 1
mwhouston Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Who can see what is missing here when demonstrating wiring for GNFB?

BuzzzFuzzz Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Howdy Folks. Getting a bit done lately. Stereo rack mock up before final coats... Footers for rack, using driver hole cut out and Whites pads... New MDF shelves for Technics cabinet... ... and another pair of speaker stands... 2
muon* Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Been making a few pair of interconnects for a friend. Bloody time consuming but I guess that's something I have a bit of. 4 1
mwhouston Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I built a good looking compact F5 with Jims boards which sold quickly. I then got an order for one which left me with none. I’ve ordered more pro looking enclosures and Jims un-stuffed brds and parts. I word on parts, these are vishays, dales and Elnas, nice. Plus matched input and power fets. Nicer. Here is one boards complete. These brds have a small (100uf) filter cap on board. Also very nice. The boards are extra thick and heavy. There is a chance the next build maybe dual mono. I’ll have to wait until the enclosures arrive to see if i can fit everything in. Or maybe just more filter caps. Also a image of a finished amp. 5

mwhouston Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 (edited) I have had a number of requests for my UX-171A vintage tube preamp schematic. I think i have posted it before but here it is again with values if the image is hard to read. Values;- Input resistor - 100K Grid blocker - 3K Rp (plate load) - 2.7K Output cap - 1uf (100V at least) Rk (cathode resistor) - 1.5K Ck 22uf (33uf is OK) 20V Output POT - 250K HT - 90V Vf - 5V DC (regulated).
