St_Luke Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) A few headphone stands for around the house and a couple mini amp/stands for the spare pc and bedroom. Personal stand, connects to the pc runs a remote jack for hot swapping and is powered by usb. For the son's pc setup he wanted space for his music streaming tablet cut and bent from a single piece of 8mm plex Little amp stand combo unit for bedroom listening. Last one is a little laptop amp/stand powered form 5v usb cheers Edited March 15, 2015 by St_Luke 8
acg Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Nice work!! I am struggling to remember how we bent plastic back in Shop B all those years ago.
awty Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Yes very cool, way neater than my effort. Any hints on how you went about cutting and folding the plastic? 2
Guest Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Very cool, those headphone stands @@St_Luke What kind of plastic is that? For cutting I would guess jigsaw with fine tooth metal cutting blade would work? Done this with perspex a lot. Bending....? A bit of heat from a heat gun (for paint stripping etc) and a template? St_Luke Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Wow thanks guys wasn't expecting so much interest All my perspex (plex) work is done with jig saw band saw and heat gun. Weldon glue to stick it all together , edges are buffed using wet and dry and polished using auto buffing compound. @ awty thats bloody awsome love it very cool mate few more build pics @ me PB site http://s5.photobucket.com/user/Defyantmods/library/?view=recent&page=1 1

St_Luke Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 The Hot Wheels track is brilliant. ....I want one. LOL thanks mate, was for my grandson the look on his face was worth every minute of the 2 weeks it took to make

Weldon glue to stick it all together , edges are buffed using wet and dry and polished using auto buffing compound. Very cool.I've just acquired a big sheet of 10mm perspex, about 1000x600 or thereabouts with an already rolled edge on it which I intend to use for a boombox project of some sort. It has a fair few scratches in it but I've been doing a bit of reading on how to bring the shine back. Tricky stuff to work with though. Cutting it on the big timber dropsaw slowly works well
St_Luke Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Cheers DV That's a chunky piece of plex , chop and buff (just like a car) works wonders for perspex and wipe clean with metho. A great thing to know for those with dull/fading car headlights. I did exactly the opposite today for the last stand, this ones for the main stereo in our front room. I first did it as clear plex but some how the clear dosn't blend well hear. So did some qick 800 wet and dry frosting and am much happier with the end result. and prolly the last one for a while Clear version looked great outside... but inside on stereo unit..... bit meh After some 800 wet and dry and a re-glue with some new clear rubber feet to match. Much happier with this look inside and the old head can be retired from duties 1
Guest Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Yeh the frosted look works well. (I love how you drill holes in the "spine" BTW ) I like painting clear perspex panels, on a box, "from the inside" so it needs to be clear and scratch free. Edited March 16, 2015 by Dirty_vinylpusher
Guest Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Oops, was way off on that perspex..... 850x1500  Ok for $30  Edited March 16, 2015 by Dirty_vinylpusher

The whole rack would have this soft blue glow.
Guest Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 A bit on polishing old perspex (Expand the quoted part in the first post) http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/removing-scratches-from-perspex-plexiglass-acrylic-polycarbonate-lexan.8113/

Guest Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 @@St_Luke I can't stop looking at your pics  Very inspiring. In these ones Did you make the cases for the amps as well? With the white ones and black ones, did you use already coloured plastic or is it clear stuff that's been painted? Cheers.
Guest Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hmmmm.....would the clear PVC pipe cement work on perspex and plastic.....? The stuff you use for stormwater pipes etc. Gonna try it tomorro.

Not really on perspex.... would be pretty messy i'd imagine mate Another weekend and another stand ...... or 2! One in 10mm black onx plex with a shine and beveled edges decided to leave the holes off the tail this time and added some plex rod as a cable holder and one just for fun..... using the getto minimalist theme 1
betocool Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Finished the electronics for a headphone amp. Stage 1: PCB design and soldering Stage 2: Connected all peripherals, input jack, pot, output jack, power switch and battery holders It's a very simple design using one OPA2134 per channel. The goal is to fit all into the empty cigar box beside it, that shall be stage 3. Sadly during construction and testing I made a rookie mistake, placed the right channel OPA in the wrong direction and ghosted it pretty quickly. Off to Altronics tomorrow on my way from work to get another one. Lucky I built the board with 8-Pin chip holders, in case I had to replace them, test other op-amps or... made a rookie mistake. At least I tried each channel individually, and they work fine. 2
